The single greatest comedy moment in OGL history was in one of the Scarred Lands books, where, in actual printed copies, the OGL was prefaced by the note:

"Put this in the smallest type possible; they might be able to force us to put it in, but we don't have to make it readable."

ARBco,

@LeviKornelsen @martinralya AEG was one of the more generous users early on, at least, they had an odd extra bit of license that let you use their IP in a limited and weird way. Like, you could use Reis the pirate, for example, but they couldn't have the same writing or identity, IIRC? It was odd, mainly just usable in case you wanted to use some feat like "Hida's Fortitude" or the like without changing the name.

ARBco,

@LeviKornelsen You need to look up the Munchkin d20 books, which are the biggest middle finger to the OGL, with chapters like "This chapter is closed content except for words beginning with the letter P." or "This entire chapter is open content, except for the words 'dice', 'Munchkin, and 'the'." I'm not sure how contractually defensible it was, but it sure was a pisstake.

The first result in the iPhone App Store when you search for “mastodon” is the Threads app

    ARBco,

@micahflee it's because they've deliberately used that as a flag for that ad, of course.

Even if you're new to D&D, most of you are likely familiar with Dragon magazine. First published by TSR in 1976, Dragon was an indispensable official source of new material.

Dragon was issued monthly from June 1976 until Sept 2007 (359 issues) in print, with a digital version continuing on until the final Dragon, issue 430, dropped in Dec 2013.

My all-time favourite article continues to be The Nine Hells by Ed Greenwood (Dragon 75 & 76).

Do you have a favourite article?

Illustration for the Dragon magazine article the Nine Hells Part 1 by Ed Greenwood. A black-and-white drawing of a fighter and a paladin standing over the fallen body of a devil with a sword stuck into it and smoke wafting up from the body.

    ARBco,
