I washed my hair at 7 this morning, put it in a bun after like 30 min in a towel. Now at 10:30p I'm taking it out of the bun to braid it and it's still a bit damp...

waiting for the plumber today, which combines two things i hate: waiting for a phone call and having someone come to my house.

@ahermitforhire Ugh the worst, I hope they're both over very quickly.

I really want to love this more than I am as it works up.

I'm really hoping like, more progress and blocking works miracles.

It's the same yarn as the pattern, but idk, it looks SO messy and blaaaah to me. Maybe I'm just too close to it. And maybe the yarn will really look great after blocking.

Hoping it will be nice to wear this autumn.

@westerling It's the Maker's Dozen: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/makers-dozen

I'm thinking about throwing it on a barber cord and blocking that, see what happens.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@westerling Yeah that is what I'm hoping. And cables always look shit before blocking.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@vapaad Isn't it just stunning? It's called Rustic Rye and it makes me little hobbit heart SO happy

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@westerling Yeaaah. I think I agree that it's just in that awkward "teenage" stage, lmao

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@westerling The garter is a bit loose but the pattern is in gauge.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@kerravonsen @Radlerin These cables are tough cuz they're 12 stitch ones. 6 onto the cable needle each time and that's a LOT of stitches to cross over. They're the biggest ones I've done.

I'm pretty comfy with like a 2/3 or even 3/3 situation. These are... hard.

And thank you :)

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Rivikah I picked the yarn cuz it was the one used by the designer. But I think I agree with you.

Chronic illness is isolating. Sometimes I think the worst symptom is loneliness.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@mindfog I've long felt that loneliness is one of the most destructive forces on our planet. It sucks, and is definitely the worst symptom of my chronic stuff.

I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature :awesome:

I'm honestly not bitter that my mother & sister traveled 6+ hours to attend my niece's graduation when they wouldn't drive 35 minutes for my son's graduation last year. There's a small part of my brain that is screaming YOU SHOULD BE ANGRY. But for my own happiness, I'm choosing to let it go. I hope they have a safe trip.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Heidiknits Family sucks so much. I have similar stories with mine until I finally gave up and went no contact.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Heidiknits Valid! Yeah I let a lot of little stuff go over the years and it was okay-ish.

It reached a point for me and my son that contact with them was doing more harm than good.

I'm so glad that you've been able to reach a place where it's something you're able to let go <3

Getting that bill paid (even though it's a holiday weekend) is so much of a relief. Did it need to be paid today? No. Did it even need to be paid this week? Again, no. But I knew it was there, and it was niggling at me, causing a low-level anxiety. Now it's gone.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@ashcake I did that with some bills today too. It came to my brain, and I knew I had to take care of it because it was just THERE, weasling in my brain.

Time for a bad science sci-fi movie!

Curling up with my knitting to watch Atlas.

Love watching an action flick starring an older woman. Now I want a movie with all of them together, saving the world.

I'm still wrestling with how I'm feeling after my mom was here earlier this week.
The thing is: it was a good visit! We had a nice hike, we found a few fun restaurants with outdoor seating we could take her to, we talked a lot and laughed at stuff and she even told a few stories about when she was younger I hadn't heard before. (My mom is a pretty private person so new stories and bits of information are fairly rare!)

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@ranyart My kid is dealing with that and his dad. Like, not enough to be a clear "cut off! transphobic asshole!". But like just enough that time with his dad makes him feel shit.

I hate how dry allergy meds make my eyes feel. And how sleepy that then makes me.

But I also hate the sneezing, itchy ears, and general shit feeling that allergies give me.

My body is so fun.

(no advice pls)

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@BluRae It's hard to decide between the watery/puffy eyes, and the itch in my ears that makes me want to scratch my brain with a chopstick

I loathe current-AI in basically all its forms. It's unethical, absolutely divorced from anything that resembles consent.

But you know what I would want AI for?

Smarter driving instructions. A GPS in my car that learns how I like to drive - no lefts on busy streets for example. That when I ask about things like a coffee shop or takeout food en route gives me the option to specify if it has a drive thru and is it on the right side of the road?

AI that serves me, not replaces me.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@rivetgeek Yeah my biggest things are: I want AI that isn't trained on stolen data. I want AI that doesn't light the planet on fire. I want AI that isn't designed to replace a human's passion.

I want AI that helps.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Sklent Oh yeah, the applications for accessibility have huge potential.

I'm a spoonie with chronic pain and brain fog. An actual AI assistant could probably be really helpful to me.

But we aren't there. The toddlers with hammers is apt.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Sklent omg yes, exactly.
