Oof. Had to work hard today. Bit of a break, so let's have a #ThursdayFiveList.
@neurothing wants #TheLove songs. Obviously, I've a mind to pick any five of the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs, but I shan't. I'll just have one of those (and it's likely the finest queer love song that I know).
Morning everyone. Distressing dreams again, plus lots of hayfever (so so much) and a lot of work to do (because I didn't do enough yesterday), and I'm just not going to have a good day at all. Hope it's better for everyone else. Sorry I keep moaning.
I don’t mind the moaning. I think it’s good to feel you can complain here. It’s just a shame we can’t really do anything to help beyond nodding in agreement.
(I've posted this before, but still worth clarifying: for those unfamiliar with shipyard slang, 'black trade' means the people who do the dirty jobs, welders and riveters and pipefitters etc - as opposed to the clean workers like draughtsmen and joiners.)
Is Vivaldi a chromium browser? I use Firefox, I am happy with Firefox, and I will continue to use Firefox as my main browser.
However, sometimes, things don't resolve properly if you're not using a chromium browser. Ideally, I would just not use those - seriously, if you can't be arsed making your site work on multiple browsers, I can't be arsed visiting your site - but on occasion I have no choice. There'll be something I need to do, and I need to use a chromium browser.
So I keep Opera installed on my phone (android) as an alternative for such situations. However, I keep reading lately how Opera is not just a bit rubbish but actively a bad thing.
I would like to have a chromium browser alternative that's as not-evil as possible. Is Vivaldi the answer?
(Please, if you're thinking of saying 'don't use android', or 'refuse to access any chromium-only sites', then don't. Don't be that person. Go away and think about your life choices instead.)
Morning everyone. Not a particularly happy morning for me. Apart from feeling rubbish and oh so tired, I have this year's bullshit appraisal meeting at ten.
I used to get very anxious about these, but now they just annoy the hell out of me. It's meaningless; I have to pretend that I've developed professionally and plan to make significant career progress in the next twelve months, when there's no possibility for either (and I've spent all my time dealing with data problems).
At least the senior colleague who's doing the appraisal knows that this is the case.
@RolloTreadway Brains are indeed ridiculous. It's amazing we manage to do anything given how stupid they can be at times. I hope yours starts behaving itself and stops trying to make you feel bad.
@sheepnik@RolloTreadway Mine is making me feel sad about daughter leaving tomorrow, making me waste the time I could be enjoying her company. Pointless!
Okay, I've cut my hair, I've cleaned the bathroom, I've done a little life admin, I've fed the birds, I've fed myself, now I think it's time to try and call the internet people.
Also I was struggling a bit because the call wasn't exceptionally clear and she talked fast and had a thick accent from Essex or somewhere round there and I find it difficult to take stuff in.
Morning everyone. Very exhausting dreams again. Head is properly sore. Lots of work to do today but having computer problems again. I just want to have a long dreamless sleep.
Hope everyone had better sleep than me, or has better sleep if you're off to bed soon.
Earworm this morning is Fauré's Pavane, for whatever reason. Here's some kids playing it beautifully. https://youtu.be/wQDoN40-_C4
@purplepadma Oh yes, it definitely is possible. There's probably a medical reason or something. Maybe one day it can be identified and we can have fewer dreams.
