I've had a lot of incredible suggestions for this theme, which is absolutely wonderful. Thank you all so much for having fun with it.

In fact, I don't wish to play Us v. Them, but just three weeks in to doing the show on @labr, I'm getting SO MUCH MORE interaction than I ever did when I was primarily a Twitter user. I'm beginning to think that @brothersoul was right about how awesome the Fediverse is.

Y'know, I'm actually really humbled by the response I've got to my radio show.

This is the third week I've been on @labr, having not done any radio for a several years. And already, on week three I've had so many suggestions that I've had to think really hard about what to put in.

Of the 24 tracks that I've got lined up for tonight, only 4 of them are purely my selections.

That's amazing, really.

A gang of sparrows have taken up residence in a neighbour’s tree.

Further to this, I just received the mark breakdown, and I’m still none the wiser as to how badly I was able to fuck up that exam.

For example, question 2 on the paper was “How could communication have been improved?”. It was worth 11 points. In my answer I listed at least six unique improvements, with examples taken from the information provided, and as much context as I could fit within the word count.

I was awarded 1 point.

Having chatted with my manager (who’s passed this exam), it’s possible that where I went wrong was in not tying my answers to specific resources or legislation.

So it asked me about how communication could be improved, and rather than say “The Blah and Blah Regulation 1998 states that…” then give my answer, I just gave my answers. The answers were all correct, but not tied to my having learned anything.

And that’s real fuckin annoying.

Or more to the point, the answers weren’t tied to me knowing where to find the information, which is a huge element of health and safety management. No one can be expected to memorise the whole of H&S law, but they can be expected to know where to look in order to know how to comply.

My answers may have demonstrated that I know how to comply with current requirements, but said little about whether I knew where to look in case changes occurred.

@pdcawley Yeah, that’s certainly how I’m thinking now, though I’m irritated with myself for not thinking about any of that. It’s not like the NEBOSH exam is some obscure thing, there’s a whole industry out there devoted to helping people pass it.
