@ChrisWere Being buried alive imply that I will be fully buried and won't remain alive for long.

Being buried doesn't imply much, and can mean that I'll be buried under love or money... and it can mean that I'll only be partially buried. Which effectively mean that I'll remain alive, so it's the better choice.

In my opinion - I think more people in the cyber industry and government should be speaking out against Copilot Recall being deployed in this manner.

I think most people will know what harm it will cause having a text database of everything the user has ever typed and viewed. Our parents will be using this.

I know it will drive business through incidents but.. surely there’s a line?

It feels so profoundly depressing, and like nobody cares about actually securing things for people.

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

@Bartmoss_h4x0r @GossiTheDog Can confirm.

It's their problem now.

I'll almost be glad if their Recall data get leaked

Salut !

TheFrenchGhosty, (edited )
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

@booteille Go Ugreen

:linux: PussTheCat.org Announcement: :linux:

SimplyTranslate has been replaced by Mozhi.

https://mozhi.pussthecat.org/

All SimplyTranslate links now redirect to Mozhi (including what's after the "/")

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

Reasons:

  • SimplyTranslate has been dead/abandonned for almost 2 years (September 2, 2023 was the date at which the project was officially archived on Codeberg, but barely any work was done for more than a year before that

  • SimplyTranslate was always buggy (I had an automatic restart setup to restart it every 15 minutes, that's how buggy it was)

  • Mozhi is in Go, which should make it faster

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

Why didn't I replace SimplyTranslate with Mozhi earlier (unlike what other privacy frontends hosts did)?

Well, Mozhi didn't have feature parity with SimplyTranslate before: it was missing alternative words and definition when doing translations.

This was critical enough for me to stick to SimplyTranslate. This feature was added this week (today for Google) after I "strongly encouraged" the developer to add it because it was an hard requirement to me.

A lot of people say "all software is open source if you know assembly" this is obviously a joke but lets over analyze it

It is explicitly not Open Source (as in licensed in such a way) as the developers have not assigned it such a license, however if you stretch the definition of "source" to mean any code that runs the application rather than the actual source form of the code you could argue that all code by definition is source available.

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

@BrodieOnLinux All this could have been solved by using "Libre software" or "freedom software".

But Americans can't pronounce Libre, and think freedom is a right wing concept...

LTT degoogle video is a joke:

  • They tried multiples stuff but are presenting ONLY THE WORST ONE

  • They RECOMMEND port forwarding (yes, seriously)

  • They recommend almost exclusively US based services...

  • They recommend a paid US BASED DNS provider, a login-required proprietary web browser (or Brave eww), and a paid US based login-required search engine... along with StartPage (that engine owned by an ad company) and Ecossia...

  • They literally say that custom DNS provider break stuff.

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

This is awful.

Don't recommend stuff made for Privacy if you don't know what you're talking about.

And if privacy isn't the main reasoning then don't make it the reasoning for most of the stuff.

LTT proving again that they just never change.

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

The thing is that I know why they recommended those stuff... it's the most normies stuff.

The problem is that it doesn't work because as I said: "if privacy isn't the main reasoning [of your recommendations] then don't make it the reasoning for most of the stuff"

Like recommending brave is fine... if you mention all the things bad about it.

TheFrenchGhosty,
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

Same for Kagi: they just said that it's paid and completely ignored the fact that it's US based even though it's literally the biggest problem with it, especially since users need an account to be able to search

The video was rushed hard and it shows. It also didn't have a second opinion on stuff, and Anthony-Emily was obviously lost in this, because it's messy, and ended up just recommending the stuff that seems nice on a surface level

I've seen a lot of people rightfully discussing the privacy implications of Windows Recall but not as many mention that this "feature" is going to lead to people unintentionally breaking NDAs when their Recall data gets leaked from a malware.

TheFrenchGhosty, (edited )
@TheFrenchGhosty@libretooth.gr avatar

@BrodieOnLinux Microsoft Recall is literally a stolen feature from another company (that other company goes farther by recording the microphone and letting you search through what was said near it), but people just think that Microsoft created that because of the usual "Microsoft bad"... (and I fucking hate Microsoft)

If any of you are aspiring product developers and you contact me or anyone else, please do not suggest a paid review. If you are being paid directly by the company it is an ad not a review, I'm not against doing an ad but don't expect me to call it a review

Just as confusing but you can say that people are too stupid to not understand that it's an ad

It will be a real life watermark, so that photographers can't take ownership of something they don't own!
