These days I keep coming back to the moment in 2004, when during the second Iraq war I was in the offices of Newsweek about to go on my first assignment for them in Israel and Palestine. It was still in the times when you got paid for photojournalism. I was going to cover some of the protests around Shik Jarah village with a large format camera.

During the visit I passed a large table full of stacks of papers. Many piles where rather large. The table was full of these stacks and the table was a very large one. A long conference table. Each piece of paper was a print of a photograph.

These photos where the photos received THAT DAY from Iraq. Most of these pieces of paper that contained prints of the photographs contained images of dead bodies. So many dead bodies, just from that day. Images that the American public has not seen. Not on that day and still not to this day. The American war on terror killed about 4.5 million people. The images of the dead never made it to the public consciousness. I am glad that today, images from death toll in Gaza are reaching the public. I am glad you get to see the bodies.

During the Vietnam war the images of the death that where shared played a key roll in moving public opinion away from that war. Which is why during the Iraq wars controlling the images media outlets shared where, and still are, strictly controlled.

Which is why I am glad when images of death are shared. Whether it’s images from inside our own homes, from our streets or from over half a world away. None of these images of death should be kept away from us if that’s what it takes for us to stop the killings.

so tired of #signal app. How can I criticize it when I’ve never used it I would like to use it. I would like to use it very much. However I don’t own a smart phone. Which means I can’t register a desktop app which intern means I can’t use signal as even trying to create a virtual I machine running, android to download the mobile app to register my desktop app. Which failed. I don’t care how much you improve it until you’re actually inclusive. Signal is not a good app. You might also want to think about who are the people they don’t have access to their own smart phone. Think about other ways for users to register without a smart phone please. (running macos desktop)

@signalapp @Mer__edith
thank you everyone! what i have learned with your help about #signal #signalapp

  1. the signal company does not like poor people to have access to good cryptography tools. many people who do not have smart phones are not as privileged as western developers.
  2. lack of support for operating systems that are outside of the corporate two (iOS and Android). again lack of diversity makes signal lass available to those outside the mainstream.
  3. Signalapp does not support clients that are not made by signal. again reduces the accessibility to those outside the mainstream.
    if you care about secure communications i would think that you would care to have it available for all and not just those with more resources. adding the ability to not need a smartphone to use signal would make it accessible and much more secure. right now the easiest workaround is to borrow some ones smartphone. not so secure.

all the posts about how signal is so amazing read very tone def when many cant use it.

you want to show solidarity with trans people? actually do something that will help a little bit? put your pronouns in your CV! if you let trans people stand alone, just know you are not an ally when it counts. who up when it matters to trans people not when its the most convenient for you.

Please Help me save my life’s work from my former gallery in New York!
My former gallery is refusing to safely return my artwork to me here in Germany, after they stopped representing me. It’s almost all the artwork I have made through my entire life as an artist, 138 pieces of art that represent my artistic journey through the last 25 years. I have been desperately fighting to get my work back for over a year now.
the funding is stalling a bit at 2/3 of the way.
Received: €4,329
