Just a little reminder that here in Europe, we play the same exact video games as youth from the United States

We do not have (daily) school shootings however

Instead of blaming video games, start looking at the super easy to get weapons on each corner of street problem

Games are not the problem, weapons are 🇺🇸

@mekkaokereke @stux I own two guns. One is a deer rifle, the cheapest one I could get because diminishing returns and all. $300 for a 6.5mm Creedmor bolt-action from Savage. Good out to about 100m which is where all my deer hunting happens.

The second is about $250, a 9mm pistol, a Hi-point Yeet Cannon. About the cheapest pistol you can get, and honestly, I got it for the name. It’s accurate to maybe…20m

But two of the cheapest guns I could get new was $500 or so.

JFC someone seriously tried to argue that you could have photoshop-level image algorithm coders and workflow people work for 300-1500 a month and I guess they never have to add a new feature or update for OS issues and no one ever needs to interact with a different app…fuck, I get beef with Adobe, I have DECADES and RECEIPTS, but y’all FOSSStans are some of the most deeply unserious pinheads I have ever seen.

You’ve gone past Klein bottle, y’all are some deadass headass, high on your own farts motherfuckers. Out here giving yourselves rusty trombones and wondering why y’all’s colons itch every time you blink.

Fuck me running, y’all are just fucking stupid.

This seems cool, but based on what an admittedly fast search found, is there really no way to automate Affinity Publisher beyond basically mail merge?

Someone please tell me this app has a proper automation implementation. https://mastodon.social/@JasonAnthonyGuy/112576510741333419

@alwillis sigh. “Why do people keep using Adobe products?”

“Because you can build a complex workflow that’s not completely fucking manual?”

This is the same lesson Adobe learned 24 years ago.

You want me to really be loyal to your product, make it so I can’t replace it with literally any other product. Fuck, I had an entire ID badge creation workflow built around InDesign where the only manual part was finding the picture for the badge. It used the image name to build the name on the badge.

bynkii,
@bynkii@mastodon.social avatar

@alwillis it’s a nice expansion of mail merge, but it’s so basic, and a narrow way to automate

bynkii,
@bynkii@mastodon.social avatar

@alwillis I mean, word can do all of that and even use mail merge data to do QR codes, but tha’s all file-based stuff when you think about it.

bynkii,
@bynkii@mastodon.social avatar

@alwillis yep. People using a product to build business-critical workflows gives you long-term loyal customers who give you money on the reg.

What about open source inherently prevents enshittification? Nothing. And don’t give me that “well with the source code” bullshit.

Source is the start. You got a team of people who can write fast, tight, stable image algorithms in the reg, improving and updating? You got people who can build in workflow automation tools that integrate with other apps?

bynkii,
@bynkii@mastodon.social avatar

Without qualified coders, having the source is like having someone dump all the matierials to build a house in your living room when you don’t know fuck all about construction and don’t have people who do available.

It’s just a pile of useless junk unless you know what to do with it and how to do it.

Source code is not magical, it’s a bag of nails.

You won't find this on the NY Times homepage, but "If Trump Wins" is very much the kind of journalism we need from the most important news organization in America.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/06/07/us/politics/trump-policy-list-2025.html?unlocked_article_code=1.yE0.HGUJ.n4G0j7au9_es&smid=url-share

If the Times -- and the rest of our news media -- did this kind of thing relentlessly, they'd be doing their jobs.

It's now or never, journalists. You -- and democracy, which makes what you do possible -- are a prime target of the fascists.

@dangillmor @deirdresm it’d be nice if the NYT stopped being petty dicks over the president not giving them an exclusive interview.

"When a 23-year-old Sam Altman took the stage at Apple Inc.’s annual developer conference in 2008, he gushed about being able to use the company’s new App Store to promote his software, a friend-locating service called Loopt."

That's OpenAI's Sam Altman. He spoke at WWDC in 2008? That's incredible.

And now he's back. 2008 was the year of the App Store (and some brutal NDAs).

what does it say about Silicon Valley that they think the most pressing problems facing the American worker and consumer right now are: 1) too many e-mails to read; 2) too many meetings to attend; 3) i wish i had an assistant to plan my travel.

@peter @ashedryden they believe 100% of problems can be solved by React.

There’s the Idaho option: OB-GYNs leave the state for places where they can safely practice medicine.

This won’t actually hurt the only people Paxton cares about, rich honkies, but if enough middle-class white women are hurt by this, maybe they’ll vote for their own interests for a change.

Basically, unless the honkies that created the current Texas state gov. choose to vote differently, nothing will change & I don’t see why any doc should operate in that legal climate.

@palin yep. And a lot of Nazis/alt-right types. It’s a very odd state

bynkii,
@bynkii@mastodon.social avatar

@palin I believe it. Also, if you ever have any interest in Missouri, I recommend sticking to the cities. The rest of the state is pretty, but racist AF.

bynkii,

@palin yep. KC/STL are great, Springfield is solid as is Columbia, but the rest? Eeeeeeeeesh
