I’m a writer, but don’t expect deep, personal shit. I’m a sysadmin who doesn’t like nerds, they’re every bit as willing to be the most vicious and petty of bullies as the people they claim they’re so very different from.

But as individuals, they’re all right.

A lefty who hunts, so not an NRA fan. Done martial arts for years, not one of the MMA clowns.

If I say “free software” I ONLY am speaking of the price.

In the huge shakeout of big box retail to Internet sales, plus surviving Covid, I think the survival of Micro Center goes unremarked even though they switched from your basic big box store to effectively a giant RadioShack. That’s a business story I’d find interesting.

bynkii,

@kevin it is an amazing store

I should do it, right

So all the action in opinion is in the concurrences.

Justice Kagan writes separately in concurrence, joined by Sotomayor, Kavanaugh, and Barrett.

For which purpose do these four find common ground?

To grant interpretive weight to traditionalism and evolving practice over time.

With big, big administrative cases coming up on their docket, perhaps a significant signal?

bynkii,

@JasonPerseus oh that is some subtle shade

ami.l.berger, to random

I am pretty fucking sure that Justices Jackson, Kagan, and Sotomayor have all been called the c-word and worse throughout their careers and have never once hung an insurrectionist flag up at their house because of it

bynkii,

@ami.l.berger Jackson was called worse 12 times a day during her confirmation.

The most ridiculous thing about US notions of decorum, is that people are expected to be silent when Black women are attacked.🤷🏿‍♂️

If a Black woman is attacked and no one says anything, it's allowed to slide. But if a Black woman is attacked and people say anything in response, either calmly and politely like AOC did, or with an in-kind response like Crockett did, then all the "neutral" parties come pouring out of the woodwork, worried about "decorum."

Deeply unserious.

bynkii,

@mekkaokereke when it come so Black people, they always have to are for the feelings of the honkies attacking themfirst, and themselves never.

So matter stuff: with the latest revs, Nanoleaf works well with matter, to where the big need for the Nanoleaf app is firmware updates.

That’s for “normal” bases. Candelabras are a bit of a mess. Nanoleaf doesn’t make them at all.

Cync doesn’t support matter

Wiz does, but like with all matter things, it’s often hit or miss. Also not sure if the wiz app talks to Apple Home at all like the Nanoleaf app does

Justice #Alito says his wife Martha-Ann Alito had an altercation with neighbors about a "'Fuck Trump' sign that was within 50 feet of where children await the school bus in Jan 21."

Except... FCPS and ACPS were all remote in January of 2021. No children were waiting for buses

A public service announcement with an expiration date: if you've loved my writing and science, I have a book proposal+sample chapter out on submission right now. The pitch is "The Psychology of Software Teams": a general audience, warmly human, accessible book for teams, leaders, and curious minds, filled to the brim with practitioner stories AND the new empirical social science of technology innovation. 🙌❤️

Let me know if you know editors who might be interested in this uniquely cool project.

bynkii,

@grimalkina @MartinVeart after 30 years in IT, the technical part is laughably easy compared to the human factors. The psychology, sociology and anthropology of tech and IT are so important and utterly trivialized within the industry, but they wonder why they keep having the same problems over and over.

bynkii,

@MartinVeart @mt @grimalkina yep. I work in and have worked in industries where doing things wrong is bad in the “large smoking holes in things” way. The human factors always cause more problems than tech.

bynkii,

@grimalkina @trenner @MartinVeart they really are. Which is why I enjoy the human support part. Tech problems are eventually repetitive AF, but humans are fascinating

Of course this is the reason seatbelts kill women more often, but some dude says it’s not sexism so 🤷‍♂️

I will say this until I am dead: ignore power users. They cannot be satisfied. Ever. And they will want things that make your platform horrible to use.

bynkii,

@alwillis even their actionable feedback is stuff that works for like 1% of the people using it, and they all act like iPadOS has been frozen in amber since day 1

bynkii,

@angry_drunk “we don’t want macOS on the iPad, we just want iPadOS to do everything macOS does. See, totally not the same.”

bynkii,

@alwillis @angry_drunk the other problem is that if you only view iPadOS as a success/failure in terms of macOS, you can’t really even criticize it well.

Okay, new iPad Pro is downloading its initial SW update. Using my iPhone for the initial setup really removes so many pain points. It is indeed very thin.

bynkii,

My big complaint about the iPad Pro: the edges they make it remarkably uncomfortable to hold.
