When Swift came out I commented that I thought it was a bad sign that the “community dialogue” went from how to make cool animations to “how do I get the types to work when parsing json”. Ever since ESM (but not just due to ESM), I feel like something similar happened to JS. We’re spending so much time on abstract import bullshit (import maps, mjs, json imports) or typescript compiler blah blah when publishing. This is a natural consequence of the non-app developers leading language development.

@tolmasky in 1990, ObjC was a thing of beauty coming from C and very nascent C++

Dispatch with symbols allowed the late binding that made InterfaceBuilder total magic.

I wish ObjC had borrowed things from Java (garbage collection and a reasonable form of optional static typing).

But, yeah, languages devolve.

This bash command, used in conjunction w/Goat Rodeo will emit the MD5 hashes of docker image layers that contain a malicious file. The MD5 hashes can be added to AV and firewalls. Next xz solved.

The binary format is new. There are a ton of cryptograph checksums to ensure file integrity.

The file format lends itself to incremental additions to the database/corpus. This means the corpus can be updated by adding a few files (this is not yet implemented)

Performance is great. I'm seeing > 50 vertices/millisecond on local tests.

I continue to be shocked at how many general counsels appear to be signing off on anything LLM-produced.

At a previous company I was stuck meeting with counsel for weeks nailing down specific IP ownership assertions for every module of the system.

(And that’s just in the IP space! It’s infecting highly-regulated industries as well!)
