I’m genuinely curious about the liability model of this business. The (presumably) cellular connection needed here will become a safety-critical part of the operation—how would you even justify that? How would you deal with collection dropouts and lag? It would be like playing the world’s laggiest video game.

Lamborghini has realized that the 0–60 war is over, and AWD electrics won.

Having said that, I literally do not care about 0–60 times. I hardly ever launch my cars. In fact I experience my cars almost entirely in every way except launching them.

We’ve reached the end point of launch times. What’s next? Sub-one second? Are people really seeking 3+ gs of forward acceleration? How much until it becomes too painful to endure for 80% of your buyers?

The joy of driving lies elsewhere. 0–60 times are irrelevant, because that problem is now essentially solved.

@wordshaper It’s a mix for me. A weekend drive to a destination two hours away, especially through interesting landscapes or great twisties can be fun!

One trend in that I dislike is the proliferation of the “wheel well flat”, that slab-sided crease over the wheel wells. There are real advantages to this crease: it increases stiffness and reduces fender thickness, allowing wider tires to tuck underneath, and it visually enlarges the wheel diameter, which (I guess?) people like.

But I think they are ugly. And they are everywhere. Almost every new car design introduced in the past 20 years has them. And once you see them, you can’t unsee them. It’s the tail-fins of our generation, and I hope it will some day go out of style.

Actually, an even worse trend is wheel well cladding, which serves no practical purpose other than to make the wheel well visually much bigger, giving your car a more “off-road” look without actually giving them off-road capability. Compare the look of the new WRX with silly cladding against its predecessor (yes, it’s the STi version), which only has the slightest hint of wheel well flats.

I don’t understand the outrage over #adobe’s EULA. The new terms are basic boilerplate. Anyone hosting content on the web has the same terms in their EULA.

Am I missing something? Or is this just another hoopla over nothing?

drahardja,
@drahardja@sfba.social avatar

@ryanboswell Yes, the “no cancellation until you agree” part is a faux pas on Adobe’s part, and may actually violate some regulations (I’m sure the EU has opinions on this) by holding your data hostage even if you disagree. But I can be convinced that this is corporate dysfunction rather than malice.

In the spirit of diversification of service providers, I’m not going to switch away from my 3rd party password manager (Enpass) even if Apple decides to make their own.

It’s a good feature that Apple customers would benefit from, for sure, but it will also be another brick in the Walled Garden that surrounds you. https://mastodon.social/@markgurman/112571554833558475
