I have a degree in physics, too (and not the new fangled bachelor shit ;-), BTW).

I am back from disk crash, hurray. BTW.

You still got an hour to stick it to the evil empire(s).

Run your own death star^W^H^Wmail server!

@mwl will provides the instruction. How to do this without a conveniently placed ventilation shaft to your core reactor.

glitzersachen, to random

WTF. I think my (private) desktop hard drive just died, taking some months of not properly backed up notes with it.

Accidentally I got a similar hard drive from the same batch, and now I am thinking about swapping the controller boards.

Probably need to swap the nvram/flash chips with the calibration data as well.

First time soldering again since a number of years. I don't feel too well ...

glitzersachen, to random German

I think I have to learn how to write a service for Windows.

That nukes the Recall database every five minutes and disables it again. Just in case it is actually possible (as some say) to stealth enable it again.

Or I am trying to get the corp to let me install Linux on the machine. The omens I read for this from the entrails of the sacrificial animals are actually not so bad ...

glitzersachen, to random German

And now I am hoping that the workers' councils in Europe (at least where labor rights have not yet fallen under the end game capitalism) will have a field day with Recall.

I'll develop an acute case of Schadenfreude overdosing WRT Microsoft.

One can always hope. But in reality I fear, that, due to the sheer amount of money they have, they are mostly unsinkable (at least mid-term) like IBM was practically for decades.

glitzersachen, to random German

I am actually starting to think that the MS Recall thing will be dead in the water as soon as the otherwise clueless windows users realize that their whole history of viewing porn will be stored as a sequence of screenshots...

glitzersachen, (edited )

... and of course I hope for a mob of enraged pornographers loitering under Sadya Nadellas office windows.

These day, there is no difference between not living in a cave and doom-scrolling...

What I mean by that: There is no way to ignore the doom(s) if you don't ignore the outside world completely. This timeline is fubar.

Zoom CEO envisions AI deepfakes attending meetings in your place

Eric Yuan told The Verge that "digital twins" are the future of work.

glitzersachen,

@arstechnica

And anybody thinks the corp will be paying you for sending a ambitiously named program
into the meeting, instead of going yourself?

"Why not spend more time with your family?" -- Indeed, why not? Only this will be unpaid time. You can already have this today, without a "digital twin".

What if a web site didn't use SEO, didn't have popups, didn't have advertising, and never used AI?

That would be my new blog on food and grocery savings, At home with Don.

New post is up, part 1 of "Make a saving plan. Work it" including the story of how I save more than $300/year on coffee beans for home.

I am admittedly probably not professional enough on the creative side, but FWIW I am using Linux exclusively for private and mostly for my job (which actually has less demands on the software). I don't edit audio or video, nor edit photography. This might explain why I am not running into limitations.

🔥 Heute kommt die Machtübernahme! 🔥

Book Launch Day!

It's, perhaps, an omen.

glitzersachen,

@clacksee

Hm. I get that. I already suspected that this is what you're trying to achieve. And I am sorry that it doesn't work.

Regardless I couldn't resist: An omen that you are not meant to be on Facebook anymore.

Unfortunately I cannot help and would understand if you don't appreciate appreciate my feeble attempt on humor.

I wish you luck that this can be resolved.

Wait: A question: Does FB have clues that the new account is the been created by the same person as the old one ...

glitzersachen,

@clacksee

... Like credit card or street address or birthday?

Try the following: Delete the browser cache, delete all facebook cookies in the browser and create a new account using non of the above identifying attributes.

Yes, I know it does not help such an account, but if it works it means the tech on your side is OK, but FB is blocking you as a person.

It might be possible to work from this insight.

(...)

glitzersachen,

@clacksee

Or perhaps you already tried all of this. I have not followed your FB troubles, I have to admit.
