For 30+ years I’ve loved Leonard Cohen’s “Chelsea Hotel #2” but only today did I learn that there was actually a “Chelsea Hotel #1” with different, more emotional lyrics.
Young Steve #Albini at his grumpiest: "Three Pandering Sluts and Their Music-Press Stooge" (January 27, 1994), where he takes on Liz Phair, Urge Overkill and the Smashing Pumpkins via @hitsville's year-in-rock recap for the Chicago Reader.
My favorite dig is referring to Urge Overkill and Oingo Boingo as "Weiners in suits playing frat party rock."
It never ceases to amaze me that #ShaNaNa was considered such a goofy, comical novelty act for covering songs that were 15 years old. "Get a Job" by the #Silhouettes was a #1 record in 1958.
This would be the equivalent of somebody today covering Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."
@gloriousnoise@RodneyAnonymous i worked at a fish and chips place as a dishwasher when that came out and i had my little tape player and I remember one of the old cooks walking by and saying "is that guy singing about sha na na?? the tv show?"
Directed by Ben Prince. From Stampede, coming soon on Warner Bros.
Orville Peck is a phony. He’s about as “country” as Elon Musk…although Peck looks way better in a cowboy hat. He’s a phony, but he’s a real phony. You can tell he believes his own bullshit...
One more post specifically intended to ingratiate myself with my new instance: My son recently joined his high school rugby team. In addition to being good for his health, teamwork, sportsmanship, etc., the thing I’m most excited about is the team logo. And yes, I ordered a t-shirt for myself!
