So far, so good. This version might actually work.

The knob in the center adjusts the take up tension. The cable is thinner and the path is free of friction. There's also twice the gear reduction compared to the previous iteration.

Feeling good about this iteration. Got enough of it drawn that the print queue won't finish until after work.

now it's just a simple matter of programming

Hokay. Things I was worried about being problems are, in fact, problems.

Having a bunch of weight out on the end of the four-bar linkages messes up the kinematics and makes the whole thing wobbly.

The steppers are also not quite powerful enough to lift this fairly heavy creature up the wall.

The next iteration will move the X and Y steppers inboard.

I'll also have to add some gear reduction to the steppers.

Hope this is enough stroke.

Clock spring from amazon $10.
Clock spring from Harbor Freight tape measure: $2.50.

A sprung reel stolen from $2 tape measure, mounted on top of a 3D printed spur gear, sitting on a bench strewn with bearings.

The pigeon cam is back. A circuit breaker fliped during a thunderstorm while I was traveling, ending the stream.

They laid eggs now!

Insufferable coworker who is like a walking talking Field Guide to Simple Sabotage reverts package dependencies to 3 year old versions then asks fool ass questions in the team channel how anyone could possibly know what the latest version of something is.

According to my boss, this is not a problem. We must be inclusive.

But I am apparently a problem (and not inclusive) because while my answer in the small team chat was polite, it was not polite enough.

Bought one of those $70 Hantek USB oscilloscopes because sometimes I just can't be assed to clear off half my desk and haul a 45 lb tek dinosaur off the shelf.

$70! It even comes with some shitty probes.

Compiled OpenHantek6022 to test it out and and it's great. Jank-free, runs at 60+fps, does basic DSO stuff.

Siggrok supports this device too.

Completely cromulent scope.

Video is of output from a shitty heathkit function generator that can't even make a 300Khz square.

Video of OpenHantek software connected to a Hantek 6022BE capture device.

Just learned that the word grasshopper survived from Old English gærshoppa (literally "grass-hopper"), but the word for spider, wæfer-ganges (walker-weaver), did not. Too bad.

Lately, the later drops in with a picture of a computer case or something, asking how to cut one of its flaps off.

Reflexively start rotating a lazy susan of hacksaws in my mind, thinking of a helpful answer that isn't "big scissors" or "teeth."

But then the gadget freaks swarm in with their menu of power tools.

Nah, nope, pass.
