Lately, the later drops in with a picture of a computer case or something, asking how to cut one of its flaps off.

Reflexively start rotating a lazy susan of hacksaws in my mind, thinking of a helpful answer that isn't "big scissors" or "teeth."

But then the gadget freaks swarm in with their menu of power tools.

So far, so good. This version might actually work.

The knob in the center adjusts the take up tension. The cable is thinner and the path is free of friction. There's also twice the gear reduction compared to the previous iteration.

Hokay. Things I was worried about being problems are, in fact, problems.

Having a bunch of weight out on the end of the four-bar linkages messes up the kinematics and makes the whole thing wobbly.

The steppers are also not quite powerful enough to lift this fairly heavy creature up the wall.

The next iteration will move the X and Y steppers inboard.

I'll also have to add some gear reduction to the steppers.
