Tesla chair says Elon Musk needs $46 billion pay plan to stay motivated

Musk could devote less time to Tesla if pay isn't re-approved, shareholders hear.

I'm really sorry you have to put up with this shit (actually, you don't, which is why you're not posting). But know, that a lot of us out here really appreciate your experience, insight, and ability to articulate it in understandable terms, even when sometimes it comes into conflict with our own held views or wishes for how things should be. I know the haters tend to be the most vocal, but I want to say this, even if it might be too late.

My local bike shop guy heard about my quixotic quest to adapt a 40 spoke Sturmey Archer hub to a 36 spoke rim with machined adapter plates, and give me another hub to play with.

It looked nice on the outside, but it did not make the expected ratcheting sound that a freewheeling hub should make when spun. It also did not work correctly.

I thought maybe it would just be full of gummed up grease inside so I poured a bunch of paint thinner in there and let it sit, but that did not fix it, so I disassembled it and found it to be extremely crusty, rusty, and gunky inside.

I'm going to try to make it work again, even though this hub still won't work on my bike because it's drilled for 28 spokes lol. It just seems fun to see if I can clean it up and fix it.

Ooh! Another Evaporust fan! I heard about it from Adam Savage's videos, tried it, and found it fantastically useful. I try to keep a gallon in my shop at all times.

I like Evaporust for the safety, environmental factor aspects and especially the lack of smell. My wife's writing office is in in a corner of my shop building, and I try to keep the stinky stuff outside. And when you live on the Oregon coast "outside" is a workspace that works on an only occasional and unreliable basis. You using your own acid mixture or is there a commercial brand with it that you prefer? Evaporust is great, but not for every job. More knowledge: good.

    jstevenyork,
    @jstevenyork@mastodon.social avatar

Wow! That's useful info! The disposal aspect is one of the big pluses on Evaporust for me. Are you using it straight or in diluted form?

The center headlight is kind of puzzling, but it could be an early English Ford of some kind, maybe an Angela? Similar looking car anyway, though I couldn't find an exact match for the grill and headlights. And maybe the center headlight is an old after-market accessory? Found a Youtube video of someone putting one on their 50s Nash.

Based on past early releases of stealth aircraft imagery, these are undoubtedly carefully selected angles intended to hide as much as they show. For example, there is at least early toy version of the F-117 fighter with a very gently swept wing, far less than the real thing, because the first photo released was angled to give just such an impression, or at least to make it difficult to know what the actual angle was.

Not to mention maybe toppling the entire health-care system, bad as it is in the U.S.

The rule seems to be, tile heat shields are HARD, and subject to endless fidgeting. And remember that a tile failure killed a space shuttle crew. 90% of the way on a heat-shield isn't enough, and nobody has really proven them as safe and routinely reliable. This remains a major challenge for SpaceX on their Starship as well.

When I retrofitted this old flashlight with rechargeable lithium batteries and an LED bulb last year, or whenever it was, I made a point to add a low battery light. After using it on and off for months without charging, it is satisfying to see that the low battery light actually works. I was never sure if it actually would

I love up-tech retrofits of cool old devices like this. Very nice!
Can you give any insight on how you did the conversions? I'm interesting in doing something similar with old lights and toys I have here to work, but the mechanics and safety issues of working with lithium power packs still intimidate me.
BTW, it's a little hard to judge scale here. Is this maybe an old miner's headlamp?

So I bought an LED shop light yesterday and I was just looking at the installation instructions and it says to install two ceiling hooks 44.08 inches apart. There are no instructions. That bugged me, and I assumed it had been manufactured overseas in metric and would translated to a round metric number. It translates to... 111.963cm. WTF?! Even if you assume rounding errors, why 112cm? Not 100 or 120 or even 115? WHYISTHIS!
