So my cousin set up my grandmother with a Roku box for TV. She’s enjoying Freevee and news apps and YouTube.

How can I buy her specific shows or movies that she misses? Amazon? Some other service? It’s gotta be user-friendly.

(All of it’s worth getting her off satellite TV because she’s stopped watching Fox News.)

What’s a good appreciation gift for a team member who cracks the case? Today a network admin in our IT team caught an ancient sftp server being abused and shut it down. I’m thinking a 6 pack of craft beer.

I’m the security guy so I want to let my fellow team member know I appreciate him saving our asses by catching an anomaly on the network. Makes a bunch of paperwork and follow up remediation work for me but it was a great catch.

Hello technerds, I need help picking my next laptop. I currently have a 5-6 year old MacBook air that is on its last legs. I am about to graduate with my bachelors and want to work in a legal/office setting. I game casually

What laptop will get me the best bang for my buck during my early career (and maybe through part of law school if I go in a few years)?

I will concur that if you are used to Mac, the Apple Silicon MacBook Airs are really good. An M1 (or good deal on a M2) will be a huge upgrade compared to your current one. The performance is probably the best you can get in a laptop. Spending 1200 on a Windows laptop can get you something that would play games maybe a bit better (and Windows has better compatibly for games overall) but would not be as thin or have as good of battery life. Shoot for 16 GB of RAM at the minimum.

How far has stuff like that come? DeX seemed like abandonware the last time I had a Samsung over 5 years ago and Linux phones are anemic and barely function as phones with far too many compromises.

My dream phone would be able to plug into a dock and just use like a laptop. Undock and use like a phone.

@vwbusguy what do think about zraid/zfs? Zfs1 and zfs2 are effectively raid5 and 6 from what I remember. I agree it isn’t a backup. Just a drive failure heads up.

Its crazy that just laid off their entire SuperCharger team.

It is REALLY REALLY difficult to justify buying another vehicle that isnt a Tesla, solely because you're shooting yourself in the foot wrt charging. Tesla chargers are just miles better, more convenient and more numerous.

If that advantage is gone, I don't really see how Tesla is going to compete.

Yeah they just opened up the standard, everyone is going to be using the Tesla fast charge plug and we still need like triple the amount of chargers at least. Tesla could partner with more gas stations (I think they have a deal with Wawa). 100’s of billions of gallons of gas are sold per year. Charging is the EV equivalent. Even at a few dollars of profit per charge up, if Tesla is a majority of this market that’s a huge revenue stream.

Makes zero sense to fire this team.
