I’m not a fan of the many ways AI is being abused to avoid paying people and screwing consumers in the process, but i love the explorations of silly ideas that it makes possible.

Case in point: this post with images of many fictional characters playing drums, just because someone thought it might be cool.

Apple's documentation has a lot of anchor tags that I WANT to use to link to the appropriate section of the page BUT they don't expose them to the UI. So, I wrote a script to find all the anchors that didn't have an "href" but did have a "name" and then inserted a little link emoji to the side of them that I could right-click to get an url to link to.

Why put in anchors if you don't let people use them?!

Web Developers with ANY experience with Apple Passes.

Do any of you know how to update a pass in an Apple wallet from a webapp?

More specifically, is there a way to do it without an iOS app? I'm imagining something like giving them a link to a new .pkpass file that'll supersede the one they already have or something like that?

Now police are getting a modern take on bolos which they will inevitably shoot at the legs of running people causing heaf and limb injuries when the person slams into the ground.

Oh and it has pointy barbed hooks.

TIL that the people behind mastodon thought it reasonable to release the ability to follow tags WITHOUT the ability to see the tags you're following, or see the posts associated with one of the tags you're following.

From a geek standpoint i get it. This is the 1st step. it's a foundational thing. BUT you're releasing this to the public. Just wait until you've got an actual minimum usable feature. Not like "well half of this is usable" 🤦‍♀️

(yes i know it exists now, but it's NOT discoverable)

I have designed 2 snap-fit connectors and placed them on test blocks.

1 of them is reasonable.
1 of them… is not. I think "ridiculous" is a more appropriate adjective.

I am printing the ridiculous one anyway out of morbid curiosity.

For now I've switched back to my old wired Sony's with an exposed wire 🤦‍♀️ when at my desk and I'm recharging my ratty old Parrot Zik's for when I'm going on walks.

The Sony's are comfortable, if a bit warm, but the cord keeps getting caught on my chair when I get up and yanking them to the floor.

The Parrot's sound decent but they're HOT and the ear cups are a little too small.

Because someone's going to ask / suggest. I have...

  • plugged them in and unplugged them
  • placed them in their Apple Underwear (plugged in, and not)
  • tried the minor reset (13 sec)
  • tried the major reset (15 sec)

all of these USED to work. none of them work IN ANY WAY now. Like you literally can't even cause it to reset.

Currently I'm letting them discharge in their underwear which will probably take a week (or more) because a complete discharge is the only thing I haven't tried.

There are rumors of a new version, but ALL of them agree that it's going to be a half-assed update at best

  • no H2 chip (improves battery life & sound quality)
  • no U2 chip (precision finding in Find My)
  • no new case

We get new colors, upgraded bluetooth, and usb-c.

So, a software patch (& 1 updated chip?) and a new connector.

AFAIK they never even fixed the problem with the "case" having a misaligned cutout for the plug.

I wear Air Pods Max's for 1 reason:

their metal shells make them the ONLY over-ear headphones with decent sound dampening WITHOUT noise cancellation.

Noise-cancellation makes me queasy so I can't use it.

Their "transparency mode" is effing amazing so when I DO want to hear the world around me it VERY successfully compensates for the dampening.

They are heavy BUT the headband does a surprisingly good job of compensating. I've worn them 8+ hours a day.

Assuming apple releases the rumored update to Air Pods Max this year, will I buy them?

I don't know. I really don't. Apple clearly doesn't care about this product. EVERYONE UNIVERSALLY hated the case AND it had a manufacturing bug, but they NEVER fixed that in 3 years.

They didn't give it their top-of-the-line stuff when it was released. They've never touched them. MAJOR software problems have been ignored since release.

They don't understand the value of a &!@$!ing power button!

I believe my AirPods Max's can be officially declared dead. They've been suffering from the constant disconnecting problem that people have been experiencing SINCE THEY WERE RELEASED, which eventually became not connecting to anything, but now I can't even manually reset them. Also, apple - in their hubris - decided that they don't need a power button so you can't "turn them off and on again"

Hand Mirror, is a great macOS app intended to help you check what you look like on camera before you join a meeting. https://handmirror.app

I find it incredibly useful for helping too "see" the office clutter that's built up before going into an interview. The many little things you don't notice IRL, but are obvious when looking from a camera's perspective.
