Alrighty, first day of the ICDL conference in Austin, Texas. The international conference on development and learning is a small, interdisciplinary research conference somewhere between AI and cognitive sciences, and it is such a specialized venue that I kind of doubt anybody else in the Fediverse is here, but please prove me wrong 😊

Funny— I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, since we are doing a full watch-through of “Seinfeld”.

Although Jerry and Larry David have a lot in common and are terrific collaborators, when you look at Jerry’s standup and all his interviews vs Larry’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and all his interviews, you see they have very different feeling about and humanity.

@tvaziri sad… I have the feeling Seinfeld always was like this. I admired his show and the character he was playing, but in „real-life“ there were various occasions where he seemed utterly superficial and showed a lack of empathy. I have to look it up, but there was an episode of comedians getting coffee that really rubbed me the wrong way at the time..

Any recommendations on office screens for MacBooks that are not the Apple Studio Display?

My criteria:

  • USB-C or Thunderbolt
  • 60W charging minimum
  • Minimum 4K (non-Retina is not an option)
  • as much DisplayP3 as possible
  • Needs USB ports that are capable of keeping an iPad powered
  • Camera and LAN optional, but welcome.

But I’m going to give you one extra tip most people don’t know: in Paris (and only in Paris) there is an animatronic dragon underneath the castle and it’s amazing! ICYMI: Eln Msk decided to push the "Full Self-Driving Capability" feature to all Tesla owners for a free 1-month trial (normally a $12,000 add-on). It's automatically installed and enabled starting today. Just a heads up that you may want to be extra wary of any Tesla you see on the road this month, as the driver may be using this feature without understanding its limitations or requirements (constant, hyper-attentive supervision).

@pbg this is really reckless, dangerous and probably just a push to generate a bit more training data and revenue for a platform that is not really a viable product… Beta-Testing should be a low stakes and opt-in (and not endanger others who do not participate)

The cool thing about #Netflix and #AppleTV+ releasing copies of each other's series is that when one makes a #scifi series, we also get a second sci-fi series 🤩. Bonus points when one chooses to use their "filmed in the EU" quota for it. It's a win-in :) 🍿

@JustMeDevin I love crouton and only now I really discovered the hands-free cooking feature ❤️. Also, I am so happy that you get some good PR from your Vision Pro efforts, keep up the fanstastic work! One thing that puzzles me is that scrolling through my personal recipe library sometimes is a teeny-tiny bit laggy and then again, the next time I’m in the view it isn’t anymore.. did I maybe attach photos that are too large to my recipes?

@sdw hm, not my cup of tea,… but looks nice for a quick sketch. To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of the vision os style in general.. for example I feel all of the windows are too gray, and everything would benefit from more contrast
