Just talking with my wife who was canvassed earlier by a local election candidate. They can't call into houses flying the national flag due to fear of assault. All this far right galvanisation is due to decades of neoliberal governments turning a blind eye to everything but the growth of business. Now we have angry electorates getting their information from algorithms which are created by exactly those businesses beloved of those neoliberal governments
@humanhorseshoes I was out there on the bike earlier. It's lovely but Jaysus those planes are low and constant. Every second house has cctv too as the city expands
Remember when Drew Harris said there was no coordinated campaign of xenophobes? The racists are running around the country and the Garda are clueless, hamstrung from the top down.
All these campaigns are coordinated. They can't function without planning
If humans are so smart, then why have we consistently throughout history put the worst people in positions of power? Why have we never learnt not to do that?
@Penguinflight yeah maybe saying we put them there is wrong as it's not always the case, but humanity is all about standing by, letting it all happen, over and over
Google maps included this as a cycle route to Connolly Hospital with my son. Across lanes of dual carriageway just as they enter a motorway. There is of course another route for pedestrians and cyclists that passes under all this.
Google Maps is awful
@teresamacedo I find a lot of this kind of thing whenever I use Google Maps. It tries too hard to be clever. I have an old Garmin that is much more reliable for long journeys, but only if driving, as that's what it's made for. There's no messing with it, it just takes the most obvious route!
@kevinteljeur mad. We took the pedestrian route instead, under the n3. Loved the canal and river. Stopped in ashtown. Made a morning of it. Saw a driver panicked, on the canal towpath for pedestrians and bikes. They had Google maps open on a giant dashboard television
Sinn Fein popularity slipping as we get near elections and they test the anti-immigrant waters. Lads, you had it right there in your hands, until you went all Ireland is Full
Tratnik lost his brave fight against the hungry Frenchmen behind and #Giro2024 stage 16 lost Stelvio to the risk of avalanches. Sometimes you need to take 3rd / Umbrailpass.
Today, a climbing challenge awaits sprinters and their teams. I think a strong breakaway can be avoided, the stage is long and many will save the legs for tomorrow, but the "bumps" (up to 8.4 km, 5.4%), boosted by breeze (side/tail), could definitely cause the likes of Ewan to lose contact on a bad day.
This is an interesting article on road.cc about the issues around the #cycling industry and nosediving profits.
It mentions "In very basic terms, pandemic = bike boom, bike boom = brands purchasing more stock to meet demand, pandemic ends and demand drops = less buyers for said stock, less buyers = stock sitting on shelves unsold. In short, not good."
But I would add this would not be an issue if... 1/2

@kevinteljeur Yeah, there's definitely an element of them looking with envy at other industries' unrestrained growth. And now they stand to lose their core markets as the golfers return to their clubs, and the pandemic boomers return to sitting in cars shouting at the world.
