the most depraved of all UI gestures is the long press that only responds when you let go.

  • can’t tell when it’s been long enough
  • wastes time if it hasn’t
  • what if you simply missed the target
  • what if the ui element next to or behind the target also responds to long press, and takes forever to complete its action

specific example: the “do not disturb” button on the lock screen, which is too easy to miss and bring up lock screen customization instead

i use the !g operator in duckduckgo to flip over to google in cases where i’m frustrated at duckduckgo’s slightly worse search accuracy. it used to yield better results, but now? almost always the same or worse

I’m so old I remember donating $20 to Nosepilot to help pay their $17,000 hosting bill for their Flash animation that went viral in the early 2000s.

I have no idea what happened to them but I hope the artist behind Nosepilot eventually became a giant in the animation world.
