The reason a Black Mastodon needs to exist is because White people have proven countless times to be so deeply entrenched in White Supremacy that they will, consciously or unconsciously, destroy everything that Black people make.

To even question a Black Mastodon is to admit the desire to erase even the idea of its existence.

If you are a cis person and you have "trans rights are human rights" in your bio I am generally going to assume that you are not a safe person.

Similarly. If you put "Ally" in your bio I am going to assume you aren't one.

Not because it is bad to flag that "Trans rights are human rights," but because it is too easy: you are really only advertising who you are to followers and potential followers, and that is a very easy thing to do without having done the work.

I am Black.
My profile says I am Black.
My posting history is Black af.

A few months ago, for whatever reason, I changed my profile picture. You couldn't tell what I looked like just by the looking.

So. While my pfp was of something other than my face, I made a joke about race from the Black perspective.

Someone who had been following me responded, nay, demanded that I EXPLAIN my joke.

Not having caught on to the misunderstanding here, I elected to respond with another joke.

I forget how the person responded after that, but I do remember that they were disgusted with me and banished me to their blocked list.

I struggle to get to the core of this idea, and I've been trying to for weeks or months, but the fascist/oppressor can change their philosophy like you change your shoes. Whatever fits best for the current situation.

There is a vast difference between logic a la carte and changing your mind, of course. I was taught to change my mind when presented with new information.

I was also taught to be consistent in my thoughts. To think deeply about my thoughts, and then challenge them myself, to kick the tires and check the oil before driving it down the street.

I have naively thought that is what everyone does.

But what some people do, shamelessly, purposefully, is to ask themselves what combination of words will most effectively get them closer to maintaining or increasing their power.

They are not arguing with us.
They are jockeying with us.

You have been raised to honor truth.
They have been raised to manipulate it at the drop of a hat.
You will never convince them of anything, because they don't believe in anything—

Except for their right to power.

The serial killers and devil worshippers that our parents were convinced would find us online, when we were kids, never showed up. And so when we grew up and went to college, we trusted Mark Zuckerberg with our faces and our names. We wouldn't know it for years, but the monster finally showed up.

I will never trust corporate-owned social media ever again.

If it's not Facebook violating your privacy, over and over again, it's Twitter catering to fascists and cashing in on your rage.

We can see then now. They no longer care to hide who they are. We are nothing but profit streams and objects of amusement for these people.

They'll laugh all the way on a rocket ship to Mars while they watch the fire that they started tear the world apart.

A reality built on lies will eventually buckle under the gravity of the truth, such that the more obvious the truth becomes, the more outrageous the lies become to balance with the truth.

It feels like the ruling classes of the world (and the wide swaths of people they keep under the illusion of being their peers) are coming dangerously close to not having any more lies to tell.

The most racist, fascist people in the world are starting to sound like people I know as freedom fighters and revolutionaries. They insist that someone is out to get them, they insist that their rights are being threatened. They step on our necks and cry out that they can't breathe. They burn our cities down and cry out that their homes are in danger.

It is difficult to find hope these days, when the news seems so hopeless—but this bold-faced, upside-down relationship that the fascists have with the truth comes from a place of desperation. Not strength.

The whole world is watching. And you can fool some of the people some of the time...

When you look at a conservative's social media, you'll see many more argumentative, sea-liony, bad-faith replies than you do sincere OPs. Why? Because progressive-minded folk use social media for expression; conservatives use it for oppression.

You will continue to see White men act out of a sense of loss (of "their" country, "their" women, "their" jobs) and you will continue to see them take out this grief on marginalized people because the wool is so powerfully pulled over their eyes they truly think it's the most disenfranchised, most powerless people in their societies that are pulling the strings, while the wealthy and powerful people who actually do control things cheer them on.
