🍺 Rád kupuju na ochutnání různé druhy piva, z Polska jsem jich už zkoušel hodně, ale v drtivé většině chutnají podobně; stačí si u nás v Lidlu koupit plechovkové pivo Strong, to je přesně ta samá chuť a síla, možná je dokonce přímo z Polska.
Poláci zřejmě mají rádi rychle upito, protože málokteré pivo je slabší než třináctka 😃 Jenže tím se zhorší typická chuť, kterou jako Češi máme rádi (zkuste si i u nás koupit třeba Primátor 14°, dá se, ale nic extra).

@amarok zrovna jsem v Polsku a polská piva zkouším. To přirovnání k pivu Strong je opravdu vypovídající. Nicméně jsem překvapený místní craftovou scénou. Ta je tu snad silnější než u nás a tam už se dají najít poklady.

I do not understand why you need gnome-tweaks to set Legacy Applications to use Adwaita-dark when the Style has been set to Dark in the settings of Gnome. I don't think anyone appreciates the inconsistent titlebars between, eg. Gedit and the Terminal

@gbraad because the former is forcing the style change on apps while the latter only indicates to apps that the user wants to use the dark theme and it's up to them whether they support it and switch to it.
It was done to avoid broken UI for apps that don't support the dark theme.

May was a great month for our system. The total production was 1.24 MWh (an amount of energy that would power an EV for ~8000 km), it reduced our consumption from the grid by 90% and the surplus we sold to the grid was 580 kWh.

The month of May here in the NYC area was sunny (almost every day) with mild temperatures. The result: our solar arrays generated over 1.8 MWh of power (!), and we used just barely over 1 MWh, so that means we pushed ~800 kWH of power into the grid for our neighbors to use 🙂

Since our utility plan is net-metering, all of those kWh will be credits for us to use in the winter when production is not so good, and our consumption increases too. Hoping for a sunny June to keep this rolling!

@kevin Are there any fees associated with net-metering in your location? Here it's called "virtual battery" and we pay $5/m for 1 MWh of capacity.
We have a standard utility plan without net-metering until 2024, so I decided to sell any surplus on the spot market, but the price has gone down significantly, it rarely goes above €100/MWh and it is even below zero at weekends, so I can't wait for net-metering.

You know what big electricity companies, authorities and lobbyists REALLY fear? That with (hyperlocal) solar, wind and a bit of storage capacity (batteries, hydro and yes, the batteries in EV) we can turn a lot of places/small villages/city quarters into autark zones, where households can get electricity effectively for free, with maybe a low flatrate to keep the infrastructure humming. A local, federated grid along the "help your neighbours" principle.

@jwildeboer Here the traditional energy companies do everything possible to slow the transition to more distributed energy production, too.
I'm doing my part home. Although we rely on the grid, in total our house is energy neutral or very close to it. 8-9 MWh consumed, 8-9 MWh produced.

@mcepl Thunderbird is great, too. We don't have the resources they have, but we can rely on the GNOME stack which helps us a lot to keep Evolution going.

A couple of months in and I can say that I really like my 9 and haven't regretted switching from . There are a few things Samsung definitely does better, but the battery life and media experience (including a real headphone jack!) are what won me over.

@vwbusguy Samsung improved the battery life significantly between S22 and S23 generations. Galaxy S23 Ultra has a better battery life than iPhone 14 Pro Max according to benchmarks. Sadly I couldn't wait and got an S22. Not great, not terrible. The battery life is still an improvement over S10.

The price of in has been quite something. Last summer it was climbing to €1000/MWh, now it's very often below zero during the day. Yes, you have to pay someone to consume it.

I'm glad I've got a home system primarily for environmental and self-sustainability reasons because any ROI calculation is basically impossible.

FTR (pun intended) — I will buy physical media, no matter if Vinyl, CD or DVD for as long as it is possible. I know that digital "media"like iTunes, Netflix, Disney+ etc is licensed in different ways. That they will not be available to my kids when I am gone. But physical media will survive me. Print your pictures. Put them in albums. Buy Vinyl. You should be in control, not some mega service that doesn't care about you. Own your history.

@jwildeboer when my dad died I inherited a 2TB hard drive with his collection of rock, jazz, blues in FLAC. Special stuff you don't find on Spotify.

He also had a collection of 1000+ CDs, but I gave up those because I simply didn't have room for them and any device to play them and basically all of it was already on that drive.

@jabgoe2089 my dad left a big apartment full of things to us: hundreds of books, documents etc. There was no time to search his CDs for gems.
If there is some lesson I learnt it's not having too much physical stuff and keeping only the most precious things because your family will ultimately throw 80% of it away.

@Milu @piratzbrna pro mě ten odchod má přínos už jen kvůli duševnímu zdraví. Až zpětně si uvědomuju, jakou agresivní formu komunikace jsem se za poslední roky na Twitteru naučil akceptovat jako normální. Nechybí mi to.

@kayla_eilhart Kdyby to umělo ActivityPub a bylo to kompatibilní s Mastodonem, tak si myslím, že by to mohl být zajímavý počin. Českému Fediverse by mohl Seznam dodat kritickou masu uživatelů a naopak nezačínat úplně na nule, ale opřít se o již existující, byť malou globální komunitu.

Takhle ale fakt nevím, co si o tom mám myslet. 🤷‍♂️

My wife is talking to why our neighbourhood has been removed from their food deliveries when the restaurants we ordered from are literally minutes away.

And the answer she keeps getting is: "We have no idea why your neighbourhood has been removed, our system constantly and automatically adjusts delivery zones based on blablabla."

It's a nice glimpse into the future with where "the system" will be making fundamental decisions without anyone knowing exactly why.

@gbraad sure, it's not AI, what I wanted to point out is the mindset that will only be more common with the autonomous solutions: "it's not our fault, it's the system."

For the customer it's virtually impossible to reach someone who understands "the system" and is able to answer why it is doing what it is doing in the particular case.

@belohoub it's funny. First it was Facebook who "stole" our logo. When we finally made a logo change and people stopped confusing us with Facebook, Foodora using a very similar font type showed up. At least, they're not blue, but pink.

@gbraad interestingly they originally were blaming the restaurants saying that they choose where and when their food can be delivered and that the bottleneck is there, but my wife contacted the restaurants and they were shocked that people from their closest neighborhood couldn't order meals from them.

V práci jsem zapomněl USB dongle pro myš a klávesnici, takže dnes operuju na klávesnici laptopu a s touchpadem. To je strašná ergonomie, jak tohle může mít někdo jako hlavní pracovní setup?

@michal na notebooku v práci používám jen touchpad. GNOME se s ním ovládá fakt pěkně. Je fakt, že tam, kde člověk potřebuje přesný pointer, to není nic moc, ale takovou práci moc nedělám, pracuji hlavně s textem a to se dá zvládnout jen s klávesnicí.
