Can’t believe umbrella style hats with solar panels aren’t a thing, who wants to go in on this company with me

@Tattooed_Mummy @seachanger Now I just need one with a curved brim! 😄

@seachanger heat dissipation is an issue, and most solar cells + wiring will wear out faster with repeated flexing. One fatigued bit of metal breaks among many, ruins the whole thing. I'm trying to come up with something for the roof panel, that backing needs to be light and stiff, and I'm thinking you might want to remove / adjust it to optimally charge while the rest is parked in the shade. Most charging would not be while riding, unless I had a solar hat and cloak for myself

@enobacon Good points, what about a very light wave panel that is circular and sort of mounted on top of the hat but does not flex?

@seachanger @enobacon I feel like a baseball cap brim is an optimal hat mounting point for a solar panel. 🤔 The curve (if any) is built in, and not usually flexed repeatedly during use.

@mivox @seachanger a shallow cone would likely be the best solar collector and shade vs stiffness + circulation, as long as the headband/fitment is moving heat away from your head. A smaller brim or flat brim would be shaded by your head sometimes. Many panels can flex, but best for durability is to do it just once and hold it there.

@seachanger @mivox "When made of straw or other woven materials, it can be dipped in water and worn as an impromptu evaporative cooling device." and you could add a fan in the top that would help with that, charge cable for your phone through the chinstrap...

@Snowshadow is this you?? It’s from 10 years ago! Why aren’t these on every head!

@seachanger
With the newer panels it should be easy to make a hat like this.

@Snowshadow imagine if a flexible pv was manufactured in a large ring to cover a whole brim
