I really can’t listen to Trump talk. Not even a little. I have a visceral reaction. I’ll read what he had to say but I won’t listen to him. I don’t want that voice anywhere near my head.

@timrichards I really do think we process stimuli differently depending on how we see the world. If you like someone you will forgive them all manner of quirks. You’ll just look past it. I think that happens with him.

When historians look back on the fall of Western Civilization, I predict a major turning point will be when people started watching strangers react to videos the people had already seen, followed closely, of course, by kids watching videos of other kids playing video games, and finally by those who watch people open boxes of things they’ve purchased.

They keep trying to predict the downfall of the movie industry by talking about how “Furiosa” and “Garfield” tanked over the weekend.

Maybe we don’t want to see yet another derivative bit of profiteering from intellectual properties that are no longer relevant. We’ve had enough of Mad Max and Garfield was never funny.

Thank God for baseball. I mean it. It’s a lovely
distraction for me for many months. It might be life saving. Don’t underestimate the value of sports for some people. It’s a mental health issue.

I can’t do politics 24/7.

I chat with my mother throughout almost every game. Maybe every game.

A ballpark visit is great but it’s nearly overwhelming. Too much to look at. Hard to concentrate on the game. Like a different experience.

Young people think they’ll never get old.

If they do get old, they’ll be the cool, radical type of old. Hunter S Thompson or Earnest Hemingway. But in reality, we mostly get slower, less sure of ourselves, and often a little frightened. We don’t raise hell in the nursing home or start doing heroin at 80. We fade into oblivion, slowly.

We do know a thing or two about what happens to young people. We were there once, too.

Don’t be so sure you are any different.

How many people would have seen this one single portrait of a person I’ve never heard of in a fucking museum in Canberra? I’m seeing it in New Jersey, which if you’re not aware, is nowhere near Canberra. It’s a good bit further both north and I think west. It’s hard to tell.

A friend of mine, who I actually met through my younger brother, is a writer. I’ve been following his journey for years. Shawn and his wife Maile are both writers. They have five children. Maybe six. I forget.

The thing is, they bought a little bookstore in Lancaster, PA. They might be the most wholesome people I know. Such an act of faith.
