“Starlink precipitation” should not be allowable as a term - I’m sorry, what?!

@carlysagan Fucking satellites are falling out of the sky. Say that. Report that.

@panamared27401 I agree 100% but no one wants to be the terror that says that lol. I will do it if no one else does. I spent tons of time researching why there is no model for megaconstellations & a Carrington event. There isn’t one bc it’s too scary.

@carlysagan Having talked to Jonathan a lot (including about this Saskatchewan space junk), he's definitely being bitingly sarcastic here, in case that's not obvious. He's very critical of pretty much everything Starlink is doing

What's wrong exactly?

@skobkin @carlysagan do the debris burn up on reentry or is it actually a threat to public safety?

carlysagan,
@carlysagan@mastodon.social avatar

@feld @skobkin I think it’s a threat to public safety. There is an article that says "One human injury or death on Earth’s surface (from space debris) can be expected every 10 years." https://aerospaceamerica.aiaa.org/features/dodging-debris/

That’s in normal conditions. We just got un-normal with the new giant sunspot

@carlysagan @skobkin time to launch a new job industry: space sweepers
