Twitter told me to set my birthday while I was browsing as OSMLondon. I thought it would be fun to set it to the birthdate of OpenStreetMap, making it nearly 20 years old.

...it was not fun

@harry_wood I ran into that with my podcast's account. Now I just ignore it (twitter)

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@bert_hubert already postal voted! / Al gestemd via de post!

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@bert_hubert I find voting to be a civic duty.

Alhoewel ik al 15 jaar in Groot Brittannië woon, stem ik nog steeds overal waar ik kan. Voor het Europees parlement eerst hier voor een Britse kandidaat, maar nu weer voor een Nederlandse.

If you don't vote, you don't get to complain...

And that was that 😭

Thankful that this afternoon’s storm was short & sharp, leaving a crisp clear evening for this evening’s final 37km ride ⛈️🌞👍

Thankful also to the good people of The Netherlands, their fantastic cycling infrastructure, & the often beautiful landscape it crosses 🥰

I’ve ridden >97,000km here in the past 12 years, >3,500 hours in the saddle, & it has been vital to my physical & mental health – dank jullie wel 💪🧠🙇‍♂️

Either way, More meat for the machine.

@saramg Still sounds better than the guy over in the cot next to me where the needle fell out and there was blood spurting all over the place.

@saramg not sticky enough sticky tape. Nobody hurt, and nobody screaming. Just lots of apologising.

Fully switched to my Fairphone after @phpday 2024, and it feels like a good phone without Android bloatware (looking at you, Samsung, Google, etc.).

A bit big, but it runs as it should, and I feel better knowing that I'll be able to replace any part of it in very few minutes, if it breaks.

The fairbuds headphones feel amazing too: better than my old Sony WF-1000XM3, for which I had even custom silicone plugs made. Also there, the Sony ones failed due to batteries dying, while here I change 'em

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@thomastospace @ocramius @phpday I've had my Fairphone 5 since November, and zero regrets. Might not be the fastest in class, but I don't game on it or other bs like that.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@thomastospace @ocramius @phpday Even if it only lasts five years, it's still better than the competition.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@thomastospace @ocramius @phpday I found a way how to remove it. By disabling the Google app in Settings > Apps, and then rebooting the phone.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@thomastospace @ocramius @phpday can't use the space?

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@thomastospace Ah yeah. Still better than the Google shite though.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@royalrex @thomastospace @ocramius @phpday I'd using a different launcher worth it?

🆕 blog! “Book Review: Understanding Privacy - Heather Burns”
★★★★★

Heather Burns has an absolutely deft way of turning the sometimes-dull world of digital privacy into entertaining, informative, and actionable prose. Too many of these sorts of books end up being a list of woes and end with "someone should do something, I guess?". Understanding Privacy is different. A…

Has anyone developed a good system for managing their web usage and hobbies?

I've got this e-ink screen I'm trying to do something with. When I'm working on it I end up with like 10 different tabs open, between docs pages, open source projects, spec sheets, etc. Then I go back to work on Monday and close them all.

It's not that I need to bookmark the relevant sites, it's that I wish I also had some contained browser history just for working on this.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@preinheimer I use different profiles in Firefox. And you can have them open at the same time too. I have one for Presentations for example (clean without history, only for demos and slides), and one for Banking, where I have no extensions installed, besides my "normal" one. You can start the profile editor with "firefox -P".
