This is such a bullshit anti-pattern.

It's a ducking keyboard app. And it keeps popping up until I pick one. Guilting me into clicking "Yes".

Say what you will about AI, but among the applications I am looking forward to is the scraping and synthesis of every manufacturer's catalogs. Since there are no copyright issues, it will give rise to a massive database for materials, processes, and parts sourcing. This is a typical source document that exists all over the web to be scraped.

:clippy: Windows 10 will start pushing users to use Microsoft accounts. How to turn it off.

「 Others may prefer the privacy of having local accounts, where all their data stays on their personal devices. The point, though, is that it's your choice, and once you make that choice you shouldn't be hounded to use your Microsoft account anymore 」

Witnessing another occurrrence of the anti-pattern this morning inspired me to write some thoughts about this social behavior that is so common on our that is based on mechanics.

On the forum I created a category for (or ) patterns, and the "Reply Guy" is the first entry in what might be turned into a pattern library collection.

Confession of a dinosaur: I don't care for PiP, which video platforms seem to think everyone wants.

When I leave a web page or app screen with a playing video I want the playback to stop, not follow me. I'm a non multitasking dinosaur and that PiP window is distracting as hell, not to mention it feels like a video ad. But I guess this boosts the content consumption and engagement metrics.

If you are seriously considering new default software for video meetings, don’t discount Signal.

Signal allows up to 40 people in the same meeting.

Using Signal Desktop, you can share a screen or separate window while on a call. You can share your screen if no one else is presenting. Your own video will not be shown while you are presenting.

To start or stop sharing while on a call, select the presenting icon with the box with an arrow pointing up.

Why Signal?

”State-of-the-art end-to-end encryption (powered by the open source Signal Protocol) keeps your conversations secure. We can't read your messages or listen to your calls, and no one else can either. Privacy isn’t an optional mode — it’s just the way that Signal works. Every message, every call, every time.”

I don’t know why the “Register” button on many sites is so much more visible than the “Log in” link. I only register once, but I might log in daily.
