Here's a dip into my softer side: three tracks with a weird shared theme, lots of pleasant tonalities and a pretty straightforward musical approach (since I know the oddball constructions of noise and nightmare a lot of my work comprise ain't for everyone 😅 ):

Of potential interest to those few of you who have followed my music for a while is that these are from my last era of DAW-based music creation, before I went quasi DAWless for ~3 years.

Because of that, they represent a somewhat less polished/musically complex period, but I am still proud of them and think they sound pretty dang good.

Jeremy Blake/Red Means Recording is maybe the most vital creator in the synth/electronic music YouTube sphere, and his latest video essay is not just a brilliant defense of politics in electronic music, it's also a great intro to a ton of cool-ass acts you might not have heard of. Go give it a watch!

Man, some people just cannot stand to be told they're wrong , even when they are demonstrably, factually mistaken.

Oh well.

Just a few minutes late for West Coast 4:20 (but still close enough LOL), here's the latest track on Metaphysical Shitposting! This time, it's "Led Astray by the Title (Cloud Mistaken for Zeppelin)" in which I dig deep into the #Benjolin and come up with some Deeply Weird Shit.

Hey @eyesquash this one is for you 😅

I'll probably post a write-up on the patch for this one at some point, but if you're curious about the Benjolin, check this out:

LOL at the guy who blocked me for saying AI was closer to MadLibs than it was to being a meaningful/useful librarian.

Truth was too hard to face I guess 😂

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

I do respect everyone's right to block anyone for any reason or no reason at all, but I also have a right to call out smooth-brain bullshit where and when I see it.

etherdiver,

@billyjoebowers but fancy, expensive, processor-intensive MadLibs powered by stolen art!

Man, I woke up with the entire chorus of a ludicrous dance punk song (that doesn't exist) in my head. Almost kind of want to take a stab at making it a real thing even tho it's miles away from what I usually do, and thoroughly stupid 😂

etherdiver, to random
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

It's NOT , because that's now an every-now-and-then proposition at the Camp, but that's okay! You can, and should, still consider spending some money on artists there today! Bandcamp takes a very reasonable 15% fee (and the payment processor takes another few %) which is still one of the best deals musicians have ever got on the sale of their work in the history of music.

It definitely beats the hell out of Spotify who simply steal the majority of earnings from indie artists!

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

As a modest proposal, I suggest matching what you spend on streaming music services every month at Bandcamp (or, even better, one of its even more equitable competitors such as @mirlo or Jam.coop). So if your Spotify subscription is $15, surely you can spend another $15 to actually support musicians not named Taylor Swift or Bob Dylan, who take the lions' share of the artist fund at the big streamers.

If you don't spend money on streaming services, even better! Just buy what you can afford!

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

And if you can't afford jack shit, I get it. You can still support those artists by listening to their music, telling people about what you like, sharing their links, and boosting messages like this one. Anything you can do to help spread the message and the music is appreciated.

And, yes, I'm one of those musicians. If you want to support my music with your listens, your feedback, or even your dollars, you can find me here.

https://etherdiver.bandcamp.com/music

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

Final thought! If you're able to afford it, you can "fix" the issue of the fees by simply paying an extra dollar or two to make up the difference. Most artists on Bandcamp allow you to pay extra, so if you're annoyed that the artists are getting enough... Make sure they do!

I can tell you from experience, nothing says "your music means something to me" than someone choosing to pay more than you asked for it.

@mxtthxw haven't had time to look at it/set it up but it's on my agenda

Here's your weekly serving of independent #music: five acts covering a wild variety of styles. #Cyberpunk concept #synthwave, deeply #weird outsider art, #psychedelic #dub, genre-mashed #electronica, and #occult-tinged #goth #industrial from Fediverse friends @osiris @s @philsawa
@prismika and
@pgcd.

Read it here: https://www.etherdiver.com/2024/06/07/opm-film-scores-dancefloors-the-occult-and-lots-more/

And make sure you support these artists with listens, follows, favs and finances (where feasible). And hey, boosts are always appreciated.

You can also subscribe to a newsletter version of this weekly post. The subscription sign up is available at the bottom of every entry.

It's also available via RSS, here: http://etherdiver.com/feed (but make sure you say hi from time to time so I know you're out there 😅)

Finally, if you want to support my music writing and promotion of independent acts, consider buying me a coffee (as a one-time or even a a recurring thing 😅):

https://ko-fi.com/etherdiver

Or if you like getting something somewhat tangible for your money, you could always buy some of my music...

https://etherdiver.bandcamp.com/music

Can't afford to support monetarily? That's fine, you could tell a friend, share it to your socials, or print it out and read it aloud in your town square. It's all appreciated!

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

Oh hey, just had my first ever ko-fi supporter! Thanks, Gary! (Won't use his full name because not everyone likes to be singled out, even when it's for being an awesome and generous person).

Some interesting stuff in this week's write-up of other people's ! Bizarro outsider art, ritualistic goth-industrial, cyberpunk synthwave, trippy downtempo dub and more! Look for it tomorrow morning at my blog:

And remember, you can subscribe to the newsletter version at the bottom of any post, or to the RSS feed (http://etherdiver.com/feed) so you never miss an entry.

Instead of banning private jets, legalise me having ground to air missiles.

Let's at least make the end of the world fun. :80spc:

@mxtthxw hear hear. I've been saying for ages that the second it maybe third time a private jet was shot down, you wouldn't need to ban shit. All the billionaire shitheads who have them would voluntarily stop.

Well, my incredibly long-winded production diary covering the completion of writing on my next album is done. If you want way too much info on why it took me so damn long to finish writing this batch of tracks, it's here:

BTW, the photo at the top has alt text and is supposed to be captioned but for some fucking reason it doesn't show up so you're left wondering why the fuck it's there, but it's late and I am tired, so I am not going to fix it.

Caption should say something like: next step, adding this little bugger to every track.
