CW: Discussion of r*pe and murder.

Man that was arrested and sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of based anarchist and antifascist activist Sean Kealiher "was also linked to a 2003 rpe allegation" via "sperm cells recovered in a 2003 rpe kit."

Kealiher was murdered in 2019, but his killer was not arrested until 2022, after he was outed by Kealiher's mother, local antifascist groups, and journalists through a popular podcast series.

Many contend that local police "slow-walked" the investigation into Kealiher's death due to his anarchist politics - only acting after continued public outcry and the outing of his killer by local activists and journalists.

On our latest podcast, we again sit down with labor historian Peter Cole, to speak about the first Red Scare and how the State, police, and far-Right vigilante groups like the KKK worked to attack and smash the growing radical labor union, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), in the midst of the first World War - and how this history is again playing out today as the State attempts to bury resistance to Cop City.

We talk about how the State utilized lawfare and the courts - passing new laws that made membership within the IWW illegal, while far-Right vigilantes and local police attacked and murdered union organizers.

We also discuss the role in early disinformation campaigns, as the media attempted to paint the IWW, which at the time was organizing in many key industries essential to the war effort, as being puppets of foreign governments.

Sickening brutality and systemic State violence on display by law enforcement across the US this week.

CW: Racist abuse and sexual assault.

In Mississippi, officers who belonged to a self-described "Goon Squad" were sentenced for torturing two Black men in what is described as a "nightmare of racially motivated beatings, torture, sexual assaults and even a mock execution," after officers broke into a home without a warrant following complaints by neighbors that "several Black men were staying at a White woman’s home." One man was even shot by officers, after they placed a gun inside of his mouth.

Officers attempted a cover up by planting drugs, stealing surveillance footage, and agreeing on a cover story. They made it clear to their victims that they were inflicting this violence because the two Black men were in what was considered a white area of town. This was not an isolated incident, community members report that these officers terrified people for years.

Meanwhile in the bay area, "FBI agents raided a federal women’s prison in California this week so plagued by sexual abuse that it was known among inmates and workers as the “rape club.” Officials are also facing charges for retaliating against prisoners who filed a class-action lawsuit against the abuse. As one attorney on the case stated, "There is no accountability...and the sexual abuse keeps festering and festering until it blows up. They tend to shuffle the offenders. Officials in prisons can be the worst because they are so jaded that all the complaints fall on deaf ears about the guards.”

This brutality is endemic to a system based on violent settler-colonial subjugation, class rule, patriarchy, and white supremacy. It cannot be reformed - only abolished and thrown to the dust-bin of history.

Michigan General Defense Committee is calling for a phone-zap campaign in support of a prisoner. From Instagram:

"On March 20th we received a letter from Hunter Poppenger, an imprisoned comrade who has been in contact with GDC over the last year. He told us that he had been set up by a corrections officer (C.O.) and assaulted by an inmate on March 6. During the assault Hunter’s jaw was broken which required it being wired shut. On his return to Gus Harrison in Adrian, MI he was threatened by the C.O. and told “he was going to make sure that jaw never heals”. The same C.O. threatened that Hunter “would be lucky if he makes it home fucking with me.” As of March 16th Hunter has not been allowed to shower, has been forced to wear the same bloody clothes from March 6th, and has been denied a straw to consume the liquid food he requires to survive. He reports he has lost 15 lbs in 8 days. We are asking folks to call in support of transferring Hunter to another facility."
