Infosec people: Looking for suggestions on a secure video camera for work.

We're a non-profit barn that wants to set up a camera to monitor the driveway for security of our horses.

NO cloud storage, wifi access, etc. We need the video to be secure due to the nature of our work.

Talk to me about what we need. (I have already looked into the legal stuff, I need equipment recs).

Seconded. A non-profit needs cheap and security needs the cc in cctv

The Biden admin needs better PR, ASAP:

"Majorities know little or nothing about the Biden admin's INFRA bill, CHIPS act, ARP & IRA. While 40% of respondents said Biden has done more than Trump on INFRA, 37% said Trump had done more.

It's largely a media problem, large chunk is Fox News & Sinclair, their local affiliate, RW radio... If Biden did anything good, they won't hear it, but they'll hear lies, or gross distortions of the truth-."

I'm explaining to the that she can't just go around randomly calling people; that's not what younger generations DO. That's only for older generations (50+ years old). She needs to message first, at least.

She found this upsetting and just wants to call. So hey, maybe that'll make a comeback after Gen Z?

It's kind of amazing after doing the absolute most extractive colonialism around the world, slave trading and genocides and ruination of land and societies just looted into the isles, the Brits have managed to squander everything so much in the last 70ish years that they've turned themselves into a backwards, increasingly poor nation. They've thrown the richest empire the world has ever known away to become a broke rump nation on the edge of Europe, with literal shit in the water supply.

xdydx,
@xdydx@mastodon.social avatar

@quinn
It wasn't thrown away. It was embezzled. #stolen.

The British 0.01% ran out of #Empire to steal from, so they took what they could out of the mouths of the mouths, homes and lives of the #British people, all the while pointing at Europe, making jingoistic "Juan Foreigner" jokes.

Researchers estimate that if the top 1% of Americans paid the full amount of taxes they owed, it would raise $175 billion a year.

That’s just UNPAID taxes. Not new or higher taxes.

How about we make them pay their fair share and use the money to invest in the American people?

The things I don't like about the discussion on whether this is a state actor behind the backdoor are:

  • It doesn't change the response for pretty much anyone except a narrow group of professionals. Ultimately I don't know that it matters for most of us if this was a state attacker or some kid who wants a way to get op privileges.

  • It distracts from next steps.

  • Would they think that if the actor were named John? Will this increase suspicion of anyone with a "foreign" sounding name?

xdydx,
@xdydx@mastodon.social avatar

@hrefna @joeyh
But xe are the only security professional I've seen with this opinion, and this security professional certainly disagrees with xe.

People politely disagreeing with a subjective opinion deserve a better response than
A. Assumptions about gender
B. Assumptions about profession and skill
C. Pithy fucking "film at 11." dismissals.

Should I write an FAQ for why people who support Ukraine should support Israel, without ever supporting Bibi of course? Topics to cover include the Hamas atrocities of 7.10, the rejectionism of both sides re a ceasefire, the role of the Israeli opposition and how it differs from that of Navalnyites in Russia, and ultimately why Ukrainians and Israelis support each other.

(The answer is no, I'm overcommitted and need to plan my actual work and write the report on high-speed rail.)

This is because it's the digital equivalent of getting a 4-yr old into teach class.

Hugely entertaining, and maybe even some quirky observation the audience has never heard from a 4-yr old before, but it gets stale quickly.

xdydx,

No.

Grammatically the statement IS grammatically correct.

AI is making students dumber, but that's because AI has the sentience of a toddler. Great at parroting stuff it's heard, but no creative - and truthful - original thought.

Will it be different in 5 years? Maybe.

But I wouldn't bet anything substantial on it!

I think I will start a thread.

A movie I watched this week (by happy accident!) was Swallow.

Incredible, beautiful artistry, direction, acting, sound, color, everything, in this film. Haley Bennett was truly extraordinary as the lead. I prefer her performance to any of this year's Oscar nominees. She held me completely in suspense the whole time, bizarrely relatable.

Highly recommend watching this one, even if only for its spectacular ending!

It's not inconceivable. There is just no credible evidence to support the "for-hire" and plenty to support the "religious fanaticism" and "just not reported unless they are blowing stuff up/ destroying ancient monuments".

Millions of people continue to live with their terror on a weekly basis.

This person's argument is akin to scoffing at reports that the world's largest humanitarian crisis is in Sudan, simply because Palestine is in the news & he couldn't point to Darfur on a map

xdydx,
@xdydx@mastodon.social avatar

Is it though? Two days after Russia effectively killed the ceasefire motion at the UN?

Seems like the perfect time and reason for ISIS to want to remind Russia about Russian atrocities against Muslims...

I say this only because I value your output and I know your heart is in the right place.

Yes, it is.

But any religious cult requires a organised crime operandi to gain income and survive. ISIS are no different, but this attack is not a Russian false-flag or a US/Israel "hey, don't look at us"attack
