In celebration of the Old Computer Challenge 2023 and to help people get on the fediverse on their retro computers, I have setup a Brutaldon instance :D Brutaldon is a wonderful Mastadon client that is sparse and viewable using any older browser that supports CSS (ie; netsurf, older firefox). HTTP and HTTPS is available as well....

I was going through some old things on Gopher recently and came across information about WideAreaInformationServers. The problem I am having is figuring out if there are any still in operation and if so, how you would access them in this day and age. If anyone has info on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Back in the early 90's while scrolling through the USENET with pine, I stumbled on an odd post. Apparently someone had created what they called a hyper-text markup language to be used on something else named the world wide web using a dedicated browser. I was interested but also dubious. I've been curious about exploring other non-HTTP minimalist internet protocols such as Gopher or Gemini, but frankly I don't know where to begin. Are there any good tutorials out there for folks looking to get started, or can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
