Goodbye Youtube and thanks for all the fish (infosec.pub)

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they donโ€™t get much from my choices....

I use safari with an adblocker extension (AdGuard) on ios

youtube works just fine in a browser, the youtube app sucks anyway

the beginning of the interview was funny as well

Naomi apparently didnโ€™t know Landoโ€™s lap time was deleted and she asked Oscar โ€˜why am I talking to you?โ€™

Iโ€™d been using Unity off-and-on for more than a decade, even published two crappy mobile games back in the day

this recent kerfuffle led me to find Godot and I actually quite enjoy it. so even if Unity did a full reversal I canโ€™t see myself ever going back to it

I had no idea their CEO was from EA, so in a way Iโ€™m glad all this happened as I learned quite a bit

does the switch pro controller use different joysticks than the joycons?

my joycons have drift but the pro controller, which Iโ€™ve used more often, is perfectly fine

Nice article!

Looks like the author has a lot of similar articles written, gonna save this page for later:

ha, I used to go the grocery store specifically to read entire magazines

was probably planned from the start

TMNT is one of those franchises where they can make comics/tv/movies/merchandise all at the same time for cross-promotion, like the movie that just came out (even if it isnโ€™t directly related to The Last Ronin)

Iโ€™ve been meaning to read the comic so I guess Iโ€™ll move it higher up on my reading list now

The TV streaming apps broke their promises, and now theyโ€™re jacking up prices (arstechnica.com)

For a moment, it seemed like the streaming apps were the things that could save us from the hegemony of cable TVโ€”a system where you had to pay for a ton of stuff you didnโ€™t want to watch so you could see the handful of things you were actually interested in....

just ordered a nice OTA antenna so I can watch my local channels, anything else needed will be purchased for exactly 1 month and then cancelled

Iโ€™ve also started looking at smaller streaming services like CuriosityStream and MagellanTV cause Iโ€™m more interested in documentaries and such instead of the latest weekly tv dramas

Almost all remote-work news is negative now but was positive in the beginning of the pandemic. Have you noticed this or am I going crazy?

Earlier in the pandemic many news and magazine organizations would proudly write about how working from home always actually can lead to over working and being too โ€œproductiveโ€. I am yet to collect some evidence on it but I think we remember a good amount about this....

poor management all around, grasping at short term solutions because they canโ€™t see past the next quarterly financial reports

our company actually closed several offices due to low in-person turnout after the pandemic started to ease up, and they said they would just sub-lease out the buildings to recuperate money

those of us in the office cities are now fully remote

and there are people like me who buy everything with a credit card but pay off the entire balance each month

even though I technically have a credit card balance it gets reset every month and I never pay interest or late fees so the numbers donโ€™t tell the whole story

but Iโ€™m sure there are an alarmingly large number of people who actually are buried in debt, especially with rent and other costs rising so it wonโ€™t be pretty when things reach a tipping point (probably already haveโ€ฆ)

all those years of playing GTA finally paid off!

well โ€˜crashโ€™ is kind of a generic term used for any incident involving a vehicle and they can be caused by other objects besides the vehicle in question, and parked cars may be involved in incidents

so an animal/person/tree/meteor could theoretically fall onto a parked vehicle, and in that sense โ€˜speedโ€™ would not be a vehicle factor code

source: I work with state crash forms as part of my job and see all kinds of factor codes, not all โ€˜crashesโ€™ necessarily involve a moving vehicle

some examples: Parked, Stopped in Traffic Lane, Explosion/Fire

lackthought,
@lackthought@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yeah mentions of speed typically mean โ€˜over a safe speed (depending on conditions), or over the legal speed limitโ€™

The full report would likely list one or more secondary factors as well, such as collision with a fixed object or whatever actually helped launch this car into the air

Sounds like this person wanted to ram the house so they floored it, but flying into the 2nd story was not planned

wow scary stuff! going back into lockdown immediately!!

A recently noted medical phenomenon involves small amounts of DHMO leaking or oozing from the corners of the eyes as a direct result of causes such as foreign particulate irritation, allergic reactions including anaphylactic shock, and sometimes severe chemical depression.
