neptune, to technology in Global smartphone market declines 1% in Q3 2023 as major players on path to recovery - Canalys

I was just reading about Google watches moving away from the ARM environment. And it’s like… Who is buying all these watches?? In the phone industry it’s clear that people are buying less phones. I’m almost to year three with my pixel five and I’ll probably replace the battery soon.

If phones slow down, I think it’s only because the apps get filled with more and more bloat to spy on you. Not sure what the end game is but it seems selling new phones to people every eighteen months never made sense.

shitescalates, to android in North American smartphone shipments to fall 12% in 2023 despite premium segment strength

Most phones are now good enough to use for years, and not much is happening for innovation. Makes sense that only people in the high end market are buying anything.

sbv,

Yep. I’m using a Pixel 4 and it’s good enough. It’s hard to justify a $1,200 expense when the net effect will be unnoticeable.

lustrum,

Yep. I had a pixel 5. I got sucked in and bought a pixel 6 pro. It’s literally the same apart from the zoom looks better and the phone is bigger.

I did have modem issues with the 6Pro so I got the 7 Pro and the phone is the same apart from the odd change.

So for me going from a Pixel 5, I gained pretty much nothing, man I miss that phone.

sbv,

I really like the face unlock on the p4, so “upgrading” will be a downgrade unless I go to iOS.

randomTingler, to android in Global smartphone market decline softens as shipments drop 10% in Q2 2023

When the covid hit in 2020, most schools opted for online classes. People from India bought lot of phones as cost is way less compared to laptop or tablet. So the 2020 is peak.

If we have data prior to 2020, we can see the 2020 is an outlier.

Upgrades aren’t exactly revolutionary these days. For the masses, there little difference between a 2021 and a 2023 flagship. Also everyone is skint.

HidingCat,

Yea, I mean, I'm intending to use my current phone (Samsung A52s) for at least 4 years, if not 5. I just hope Samsung won't be a pain with it over battery replacements.

itsmikeyd,

I’ve had my S21U for 2.5 years so far. Only thing it needs is a new battery.

Oha,

im still on a flagship from 2020 and its totally fine

aditzul,

I’m on a 2018 flagship. Shit just works.
