Please remember that this guy let Trump spew his BS for years because it drove traffic to his site and only removed him when it became politically advantageous.
The most annoying part of the interview to me is, of course
But little by little, they started asking Jay and the team for moderation tools, and to kick people off. And unfortunately they followed through with it. That was the second moment I thought, uh, nope. This is literally repeating all the mistakes we made as a company.
What mistakes, Jack? Why is this a mistake? Nowhere in the whole god damn interview does he state why this is a company mistake. It’s obviously not a mistake from a purely corporate PoV (you go fash, you lose cash, see Twitter). To call it a mistake you need to show or at least anticipate some downstream negative consequences. What are they? Why Jacky boy, why? Are the negative consequences with us in the room right now? I feel like a therapist should step in and really dig deep into this one simple question.
That thread from Paul is such an eyeroll. “Community”, says the VC-funded startup-builder. But it really does show how far out into the wilderness Dorsey has gone; not even his startup bros want to follow.
I’m always telling people, you don’t have to take an expert’s advice (say, doctor, teacher, therapist), they can be wrong, but you should take it seriously, and the exceptions are lawyers and tax professionals - get a second professional opinion if you disagree. Also of course always follow acausal advice - I’m from the future!
Friendly reminder for anyone who cries “free speech” whenever someone talks about libel laws or extending them to the internet. It’s true, or even just convincing a jury of your peers that you honestly believed it was true, is and always has been a perfect protection against libel and defamation. If you are complaining about it, it’s either because you’re area doesn’t have anti SLAPP laws or you don’t think what you said can meet even that bar.
The idea that this is all a massive conspiracy by Binance printing fake stablecoins to pump the market seems far fetched given their recent legal concessions and intensive reporting they are doing with the US government.
Ok, that’s fair. I didn’t pay attention/realize what this sub was about and really shouldn’t have commented without checking.
That said, if you’re all already on the same page in this community, isn’t it just a circle-jerk, at this point, rather than a social service? Seems like you’re all moreso just having fun, which is totally fine. Reminds me more of the hermancainaward sub - that’s a good one
amy and david’s postings about this is one of the few pieces of online writing that I follow consistently, because it does a great job of not toeing the line on giving these people leeway to hide their abusive bullshit
Please come back and crow about the price if it’s managed to pumped up significantly over this wet-fart “ATH” in the future, so we can tick of the “typical Bitcoin booster” bingo card.
