@eklounge Yeah, I know. 🫣️ But this can actually be considered "reasonable" compared to e.g. planars from the likes of Audeze or Meze (which go from $1000 all the way up to $3000 or even more). The world is kind of crazy. 😅️

Oh my, what an amazing from ! 🫢️ The Composer, "premium reference headphones". But the price, like many other recent so-called headphones such as the Meze Empyrian, is way out of my league unfortunately. 🫣️ https://austrian.audio/headphones/thecomposer/

@alf Ah, so you know the brand! Interesting. But yeah, too much! 🫣😵‍💫😆

@alf My dream would be a simple construction, avoiding plastic, glue and leather in favor of , , and if it'd make sense maybe some or to keep it .
Any headphone that goes in that direction is immediately targeting a very wealthy audience though. 😝️
However, I do not long for . I am looking for , , , (and admittedly a bit of too). 🫣️🤓️

What's the best smartphone with a jack?

Other criteria:

  • Long support period for security updates
  • Easy to repair
  • Open source software, firmware and hardware would be ideal

But I will give up phones before I give up my 3.5 mm headphone jack, that's a hard line for me.

EDIT: I'm requiring security updates into 2027, since Samsung offers that on two models I'm considering. That should help narrow the field.

@hexmasteen I'm still angry that Fairphone thinks wireless earbuds with the associated battery waste are appropriate for an environmentally-focused phone. I would love to buy a Fairphone otherwise.

Dongles are not an acceptable substitute, I've had enough of the dongle life from my time with Apple laptops.

galaxis,

@skyfaller Kinda pricey and definitely not open source in any way, but I've bookmarked the "ruggedized" Samsung XCover6 Pro for having a headphone jack and replaceable batteries.

Otherwise I usually look at what's officially supported by the latest LineageOS release (unfortunately their device overview doesn't have search for hardware features)...
