@mrpieceofwork@ai6yr I'd guess refineries have their own backups? They have a lot of complicated software and processes going on, so I doubt they'd depend (solely) on a city's grid.
@mrpieceofwork@ai6yr Ugh. I was once without power for 2 1/2 days in a major Canadian city, some were out for 10 days, but that was a brutal ice storm in which tree damage had to be addressed before power could be addressed. It was cold and dangerous work.
I hope the lights come back on soon. Take good care.
@CStamp@ai6yr just came back on 90 hours thereabouts, almost 4 days. Worst part was sweating, and I only have a handful of clothes. Gonna write a short essay now concerning... things lol
@mrpieceofwork@CStamp Wow! Glad you got through it okay... did not think of "change of clothes after sweating for 4 days" as a heat/humidity/power outage thing to prepare for...
@mrpieceofwork@CStamp (noting that I have lived in dry climates all my life, and once went to Houston after a hurricane with ONLY ONE PAIR OF BLUE JEANS for several days).
During our extended outage, we were having brutally cold weather and a few folk died because they brought BBQs indoors to warm up homes, not understanding the CO2 risk. I'd rather bundle up in the cold than deal with the heat, that must've been brutal.
Eyeballing these, lots of tree removal/electrical hazards, ie power lines down/street hazards/lights out -- mixed with the other usual stuff. #Houston#TXwx
