Today I evaluated for a couple of hours.

I really have to say that this is a really good tool once you switch from the default setting to the much better syntax. 😉

I'll migrate the data from my previous testrun over to logseq and go with that for the moment.

Don't worry, I'll probably never leave my Org setup. It's for another person's management and knowledge base where was no option, unfortunately.

@publicvoit Yes, please do keep reporting on what you learn. I've started and stopped with Logseq. I lost data early on and it soured me on it for a long time. For the past few days I've been testing it as an input to my daybook (in Org format of course). I love outliners. There's an emacs package for dealing with Logseq files and links but it's pretty basic.

@jbaty @publicvoit the branch where they were adding ai to it soured me and I stopped using it about a year ago.

@greg @publicvoit Yeah, not ideal, but if I bailed on every team that's tried experimenting with AI in their app, there'd be no software left to use 😆

@jbaty @publicvoit haha that’s becoming the reality.

gschaftlhuawa,

@publicvoit jep, loqseq ist sehr nützlich

@publicvoit what is in your opinion the advantage of using orgmode?

publicvoit,
@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@phpmacher I can be used right away by people who are not tech-savvy or want to invest the learning curve of Emacs in general.

phpmacher,
@phpmacher@sueden.social avatar

@publicvoit i meant the syntax in logseq 😉

publicvoit,
@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@phpmacher I still don't get it.

Do you mean the differences of the orgdown syntax in logseq and Emacs? if so: I don't know yet in detail but I'll check it for https://gitlab.com/publicvoit/orgdown/-/blob/master/doc/Tool-Support.org

phpmacher,
@phpmacher@sueden.social avatar

@publicvoit there are two possibilities to choose from a syntax in logseq.

Why does someone choose one over the other? Is it important which markdown syntax logseq uses in the background?

phpmacher,
@phpmacher@sueden.social avatar

@publicvoit isn’t the reason to use a “wysiwyg” editor that no one should care about the syntax in the background? 🤷‍♂️

publicvoit,
@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@phpmacher I you really want to do WYSIWYG, you should not participate in discussions about LML differences :wink: . That's a different class of tools.

@publicvoit I just wish the orgmode in Logseq worked 100% with orgmode. It’s my understanding it doesn’t.

publicvoit,
@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@greg So far, I didn't face any limitations.

Maybe the markdown-table add-on I failed to test didn't work because of Org.

greg,
@greg@gregnewman.io avatar

@publicvoit have you tried using it with one of your existing org files?

publicvoit,
@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@greg Not yet. I'll test it with my syntax checker first.

greg,
@greg@gregnewman.io avatar

@publicvoit please report what you learn.

@publicvoit Excellent post on this, Karl. This is pretty much what I had learned when I was using it early in 2023 but I used it with Markdown no Orgmode because I had read about the incompatibility with emacs orgmode. I especially found your test with the 215k lines interesting and answers a lot of my questions. I really had hoped it could be a frontend to my org files from emacs but I just don't think that's doable.

@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@greg I'd still encourage to install Logseq and test it on your own. Maybe I'm using some syntax elements that irritate Logseq that you don't use?

Testing is as easy as copying the file to the "pages" directory of Logseq.

@publicvoit I'm going to do a fresh test on it. I'm going to create a new graph and try that way. My current instance is broken and I'm not sure why. And this time I want to default to Org syntax.

I stopped using it around march 2023 because 1) there was an AI branch they were working on and I don't want AI in my notes; and 2) they used spec design for a new logo which the artist/designer side of me strongly disagrees with.
