Does anyone else maintain (s) for their (s)?
I enter all configuration adjustments and (s) in a file for each machine.
This might seem like unnecessary extra work, but has paid off several times for the sake of traceability or in the past. 🤓

This week: Using paper for finance tracking has been invaluable for helping me understand the process, shaping my Markdown budget trackers into a text-based, hands-on envelope budgeting approach. Simple calculations mean I can take charge of my incomings and outgoings without a standard spreadsheet.

It took me a while to realize what felt problematic with @EvolutionGnome's handling of signatures for users, but I think I figured out the issue: it probably should be expanded to allow defining per-format signature variants... https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/2753

The new version also shows fewer notifications, checks for broken file permissions, and improves VoiceOver support. #devonthinktogo #devonthink #pkm #markdown #css #voiceover https://buff.ly/3yl1yyB

My short list today is

What are you using ? What would you recommend ?

Boost would be appreciated. Thanks ! 🙂

'dumpspage is a Markdown note-taking web-app that is powered by markdown-it and CodeMirror. Simply create your note using that big ol’ button and you are ready to take some notes (no login required!).'

Perfect, the combination of playwright, trafilatura and scrapinghub extracts all the information I need from a webpage. My little project evolves nicely.

The screenshot shows the power of trafilatura. With a single statement it creates wonderful #markdown from any webpage it can extract content from. Extracting links, keeping the basic markup and structure, and dereference relative links.

How important is it to visually see the styling of Markdown elements while writing?

I used it for the first iteration of my blog but switched to a while ago.

TIL: with git redate -c <# OF COMMITS> you can change the commit date/time and messages of commits in your repo. However: make sure you do NOT include the very first commit or the command will fail. So if you have N commits in your repo, make sure that -c is always at least one lower than N.

One of the features I love in XCode is the sticky lines showing the class/method you've scrolled down in.

I love it so much I'm desperate to also have it in Android Studio, turns out it's coming in the next version! (Koala 2024.1.1)
Guess who's now using the canary release 😄

Found a great little converter/viewer for the terminal: lowdown.
It's written in very portable (-friendly!) C with no dependencies (laughs in rustc crashing my pinebook, lol) I found it in the debian repos, which is a huge plus.

Super simple to use:
$ lowdown -T term myfile.md |less -r

I'm writing a longer (as it seems) article on the lock-in effect of solutions like that are using open formats like for storage. The file format is not the only thing that might lock you in.

I did already start with a list of arguments but also want to collect your ideas so that I don't forget a good argument.

Please, no emotions, just facts and objective arguments.

Reply here in this thread and I'll collect ideas from it. 🙇
