I reread "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson over the summer. It has a core idea about memetics that is very interesting, and it was much more fun than I remembered. I was only 19 when I read it the first time, and a lot of the satire was lost to my inexperience of the world in general and the US in particular.

It's a great read that still holds up today. I'd love to do a book club discussion around it.

@kazarnowicz @gerikson resten av gänget är på!

pelmen,

@kazarnowicz i think all of Neal's books hold up i cant recal how many times ive read Cryptonomicon and still find new layers in it to enjoy. one idea in snow crash was the digital scroll to program or infect people and these days we now have QR codes being used to spread computer viruses and some people thinking 5G spreads Covid. its clear many of his ideas have been well thought out to future conclusions and he has a good grasp of human nature and government nature

2/27/24 — Open 6-9p. Mask recommended. No open drinks, please.

I've wanted to read this guy's books since they were new. Sadly, I haven't much time to read. They're on my endless TBR. The last books I read were in Dec. '19, bus-bound due to major car work. "A Princess of Mars" & "Treasure Island" got me through. I really want to keep this 1st/1st gem, but it's not to be.
