Why Palestinians don’t trust World Central Kitchen, with Ali Abunimah and Asa Winstanley - YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp6vPsMc2l4

I grant that it is very odd that WCK got such easy access to Gaza, and it is also true that WCK's vids very much resemble commercials.

However, this all seems very speculative to me. I offer it FWIW - make of it what you will

@palestine

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas That, it most certainly was.

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas ....and the vid winds up with Ali promoting UNWRA, and Asa asking that we subscribe to the YouTube channel. Whew.

Altogether an odd video, it seems. LOL

@palestine

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas ...Asa Winstanley speaks up after Ms. Friedman to talk about what Israel has been doing with its own civilians and troops, since Oct. 7 at the 22:30 mark, citing a David Mencer "Israel Government Spokesman" interviewed on Sky News, and showing a clip of it. Mencer's response was a whole lot of nothing but "it's a tragedy we're gonna investigate" as a "friendly fire" incident. Presenter said "it's not unusual for Israel to kill their own, in a sense". "We will be learning more". Ali Abunima adds, "We cannot donate our way out of this starvation....we have to end this effort" (as in, cease fire).

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas ...hokay: they FINALLY get to the meat of the matter at the 19 min 20-some second mark, so I'm going to bullet-point the items as they come across...

  • The IDF aimed at the WCK vehicles because there's no command/control chain-of-command anything and they just do what they want (presenter calls that plausible and cites a Haaretz article in which there are leaked IDF comms to back that up).

*speculation was that WCK was a Trojan Horse replacement for UNWRA so WCK issued a statement to the contrary, stating further that WCK works with other relief orgs including UNWRA. The 2 days later the IDF shoots at them.

I'm not going to bullet-point the "third possibility" because it's just bonkers--there's a bright side to the killing and that it bolsters the publicity of WCK, and this video was attempting to make that case since the first minute--that WCK wasn't interested as much in actual relief as it was in the publicity, and on that point the video is a massive as of this "third possibility" which it really isn't.

At the 22 minute mark, Nora Friedman made the point that Mary just made: the incident might have produced more donations to WCK but it's not the case that WCK is resuming operations there. It's been off-putting for all the other aid organizations operating there as well.

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas Thanks Mary and Mike--I still haven't completed viewing the video; it's about 28 minutes long, per YouTube. Your points are well taken indeed. Although true, it doesn't assist this video in making more sense, I'm afraid.
...to be continued...

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas Okay, Jon Elmer is up now with some numbers, emphasizing that Israelis can inspect 45 trucks per hour, and it seems to me that if WCK was so well trusted they wouldn't need inspections, so that comparison is apples/oranges IMHO. It's fair to posit a truckload equivalent of what got air-dropped, but air drops don't get inspected either....therefore no delivery bottlenecks....so...if Jon is trying to make a point, I have yet to discover what it is.

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas A little further there's mention of WCK shipment by sea and a reference to a massacre of the people aboard "Murphy Murmurer" saying everybody remembers that. Guess what--can't find it doing a search on the name. Many years earlier there were several efforts sponsored by Turkey among others but no mention of that particular ship in those efforts.

@Miro_Collas @adachika192 Thanks Miro and Adachi--Ya, his pronunciation wasn't all that clear. Until I saw the spelling of David's last name, I thought I heard "Mensa" LOLz.

claralistensprechen3rd,

@Miro_Collas After listening to the first 7 and a half minutes of it, it would seem that Andreas' position on Oct. 16 being favorable to Israel would explain why WCK got easy access to Gaza but not why Israel would target that which is favorable to it. This form of logic is quite the headscratcher.

Yes agreed. It was all a bit odd.

@Miro_Collas @palestine That was interesting. I think the questions asked during the show were valuable. And I learned more. I agree that with the Hannibal directive, which absolves death from "friendly fire" that any number of explanations for the targeting of the WCK workers, including the ones given, are plausible.
Thanks for sharing that.

What I got from that vid was that it felt a bit like a conspiracy theory. It lacked evidence.

However, I will say that I found it very odd how just about a month ago (more or less), suddenly WCK starts popping up on social media, with promotional vids, and people soliciting donations. Prior to that, crickets.

A conspiracy theory of my own is the WCK might be a front for a covert gvt operation or spying.

@Miro_Collas @palestine I won't make a guess on that (it's a front), but it's certainly possible.
My only first-hand info on WCK is that someone sent me a rack of ribs w/ BBQ sauce from WCK as a holiday gift. The ribs were cooked mediocre at best, the sauce didn't resemble any American style I'm familiar with, and the oil in the sauce gave me and my son digestive issues. It kind of made me concerned about what they are serving to people.

Miro_Collas,
@Miro_Collas@masto.ai avatar

@flowerpot Ick, doesn't sound good!
Also, people who have long been deprived food can't suddenly be given normal meals, their digestive system wouldn't be able to handle them.

@Miro_Collas @palestine That thought also crossed my mind.
