Let’s settle this once and for all …

ChrisJagged,
@ChrisJagged@mastodon.social avatar

@andyn

Star Trek has nobler and more thoughtful themes

Star Wars has cool aliens and robots beating each other up

So I like Star Wars better.

@andyn
That is a very blue bird thing to ask.
I refuse to choose

@jfparis 👍

@andyn
Honorable mention
It's Star Treks better than Star Trek (def in s3)

haploc,
@haploc@fedi.cr-net.be avatar

@thibaultmol @andyn Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks pulled me back to the ST side.

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@haploc @thibaultmol maaaan SNW is peak old school Trek.

These results so far are the opposite to what I’m seeing with the same poll but on Threads. That is exactly what I assumed would happen actually. It proves to me that Mastodon is the right place for me 😂

hermannus,
@hermannus@stegodon.nl avatar

@andyn both...

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@hermannus sure, not suggesting either are deleted :) just curious if people have a preference :)

JackTheCat,
@JackTheCat@mastodon.scot avatar

@andyn Trek = possible. Wars = improbable.

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@JackTheCat ah that’s an interesting take. I think the most unrealistic part about ST is, sadly, the idea that so many separate species could get along well enough to form the Federarion. We can’t even get people in an individual social network to get on with each other

JackTheCat,
@JackTheCat@mastodon.scot avatar

@andyn That's definitely true. My altruistic self has to hope for better or I may as well grind to a halt and eat myself out of existence. 😉

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar
danyork,
@danyork@mastodon.social avatar

@andyn How about both? 😃

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@danyork yeah, that’s fine, I’m not suggesting any are wiped out of existence. I was just interested what people’s preference was.

Christofurio,

@andyn Star Trek or Star Wars? I applied my sophisticated philosophical/aesthetic views. My first name is Christopher. I prefer universes in which there is a central canonical character (from the very first series' pilot on!) who shares that name. So ... Trek it is, Captain Pike.

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@Christofurio hah, that’s some fair reasoning!

Shanmonster,
@Shanmonster@c.im avatar

@andyn I’m more of a Planet of the Apes or Logan’s Run person.

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@Shanmonster ooh, little off piste. Like it.

Androo,

@andyn I think two can coexist. 6 year old me had never heard of Star Trek but wanted to be a Jedi. I'm definitely more of a Star Trek dude now but if Disney put out a couple more Rogue one and Andor type series I might flip again.

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@Androo oh for sure, plenty of room for both. I was curious which side Mastodon would land on! :)

lauren,
@lauren@social.lol avatar

@andyn It’s all the way! :uss_enterprise:

simondh,
@simondh@social.lol avatar

@lauren @andyn

:communicator: i have to agree :tribble_pink: :tricorder:

Lironah,

@andyn Stargate.

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar
gabz,

@andyn I don’t hear/read Star Trek fans bitching and moaning as much as Star Wars fans 😅

ljpuk,
@ljpuk@twit.social avatar

@gabz @andyn there only so much you can say about another episode where the warp drive is down 🙃

andyn,
@andyn@social.lol avatar

@ljpuk @gabz half of Hans lines in the original trilogy 😂

    @andyn

    Star Wars wins for aesthetics.

    Star Trek wins for underlying concept.

    I would rather live in a world where humans abandoned money, but I would totally dig the dusty, dirty imperfect sci fi technology of Star Wars.

    Star Trek is a world where science has largely prevailed.

    Star Wars is a world where human emotion has run seriously amok.

    cory,
    @cory@social.lol avatar

    @andyn Gotta go with Star Wars. Also, Voyager was the best Star Trek series.
