I don't wish to upset Ukrainians but they surely must realize by now that the war in is between 2 empires: the US Empire & the Russian Empire. Ukraine is cursed by geography. It'll never have true independence or sovereignty. It's destined to become part of either Greater or Greater (cough cough), the latter of which is currently a US vassal, but won't be forever. In any case, Ukraine has no good option. It'll always be under foreign suzerainty.

Look, if I were given the choice between Greater or Greater , I'd choose Germany, so I understand why is fighting. No one in their right mind wants to become part of the Russian Empire. But can we just dispense with the myth that this war is about "good versus evil"? It really isn't. It's about which empire inherits eastern . It's a rerun of WW2 & the Napoleonic Wars, except this time Germany & look prettier, while Russia is still Russia.

@nadiaalbelushi wow. imagine applying this argument to any other strategically impotrant or geopolitically disputed region. that might include afghanistan, taiwan. palestine, kashmir, tibet.. just for starters off the top of my head... the suggestion that 'just give it up folks, bc you're gonna be a part of some greater authority one way or another'... i'm gonna be very nice and just say this is one hell. of a fucking take.

@rustoleumlove I personally wouldn't sacrifice my life for any political entity. I'd rather just live and learn about the universe than die for any country. Let the rulers/elites go and fight, instead. They're more than welcome to fight their own narcissistic wars. This is especially true if you realize that you're not even fighting for a worthy cause. Becoming subordinate to X is the same as becoming subordinate to Y. If everyone realized how worthless wars were, nobody would be fighting them.

@nadiaalbelushi @rustoleumlove Wars of independence are not worthless. A great many of today's countries have past experience of invasion, occupation and oppression.

Your assertion that the EU is some lapdog of either Germany or the US is uninformed opinion one normally encounters among Brits in their 70s. The EU is an association of cooperating democracies that was designed from the days of the Coal and Steel Community to prevent war.

Cooperating allies will prevail 👇

@samueljohnson @rustoleumlove Without Germany, there's no EU, just like there's no USSR without Russia, and no NATO without America. I'm not trying to demonize anyone here by using terms like "empire". I'm just making a geopolitical observation. Currently, Germany and the EU are under US suzerainty, but as the US continues to weaken Russia and encourage German remilitarization and expansion in the Baltics and other places, eventually the German-led EU will become independent of US dominion.

@nadiaalbelushi @rustoleumlove Without Germany there is no EU?

Without Germany in the EU there is no peace in Europe. Germany chooses to be in the EU both to guarantee peace and for its own prosperity. Converting that into the EU being dependent on Germany is absurd and suggests you don't understand the single market, which is a lot bigger than Germany and will be larger again in a few years (GB productivity already fully replaced).

Suzerainty? You didn't watch the video I shared. 🙄

@samueljohnson @rustoleumlove You could say the German-led EU is a consensual empire, as evidenced by the fact it expanded its borders without a single shot being fired, in stark contrast to the Russian Empire, which only spreads by force and which not even Russians wish to be part of. Russia will collapse one day, leading to an East Asian takeover of Siberia, and a German-led EU takeover of European Russia. I suspect when this occurs, America won't be too pleased with the new power arrangement.

@nadiaalbelushi @rustoleumlove The EU is not German led. It operates largely by consensus (arguably too much so). Apparently your understanding of how the EU works is limited.

When it comes to regulation of capitalism it's the only game in town (and needs to be a lot tougher). It's not going away, and when enough Dail Mail reading empire nostalgics in the UK die the English will give up their drivel about the EU being a German conspiracy.

nadiaalbelushi,
@nadiaalbelushi@mastodon.social avatar

@samueljohnson @rustoleumlove The EU will slowly turn into a superstate. It has to, otherwise it'll fall apart. The consensus era is coming to an end. Britain is jealous of Germany, which largely explains why many people in Britain wanted to leave the EU. The US will slowly turn against the EU as well. The US and UK aren't that different. Once Russia collapses, the US and UK would work towards breaking up the EU. America doesn't want a large, strong and unified polity in any region of Eurasia.

@nadiaalbelushi @rustoleumlove Evidently you aren't familiar w either the Lisbon Treaty or what is required to change it, or the likelihood of significant change. Meanwhile, UK is highly likely to break up.

No, most British didn't vote as result of resentment of Germany. Some ignorant baby boomers did, yes. Most of the rest who voted to leave did so to give the Tory govt a kicking after having austerity imposed on them and did so w little understanding or, foolishly, care as to consequences.
