Commonly named Sapphire Ornamental or Peacock Tarantula, Poecilotheria metallica is the only blue species of her genus. It is found in the deciduous forest of Andhra Pradesh, in central southern India. It is arboreal, living in holes of tall trees where it makes asymmetric funnel webs, and may live communally when territory is limited. Popular in the pet trade (@Bwee and I have one named Dory 😁), it is an Old World tarantula, with speed and potent venom, so not the best choice for beginner keepers.
