Finally got myself a slow cooker. First dish will be leg of lamb with red wine. Any do’s and dont’s? Generic rules to follow? https://www.diningandcooking.com/984945/finally-got-myself-a-slow-cooker-first-dish-will-be-leg-of-lamb-with-red-wine-any-dos-and-donts-generic-rules-to-follow/

vespertide,

@dnc Best not to open the top while cooking, will slow down a lot. Bon Appetite

@vespertide @dnc I was just about to write this, but I'm going to post anyhow because it seems to be a thing. A friend of mine complained the cooking times in the recipes were all wrong and hers always took much longer, and it was because she kept lifting the lid to stir or check on the food.

vespertide,

@eyrea yes, learned this the hard way

@vespertide It's a hard habit to set aside when in regular cooking it's a bad idea to just let things sit!
