What is your favorite Mastodon client?

Hey everyone, super excited to be exploring the fediverse both here on kbin and elsewhere. Looking for a Mastodon client primarily for iOS, great to see the main app is open-source, but there seems to be quite a few options out there. Feel free to share non-iOS clients for others' benefit as well.

I prefer FOSS apps both because open and because money, but please share any positive experience with whatever you use! Sad to see Metatext seems to have stopped development as that was my first instinct. Thanks!

I’ve heard a few namely Ivory, Mona, Mammoth, Ice Cube, Trunks, couple others…. I used Ivory for a while but switched to Mona when they started supporting following other servers. They seem to roll out features faster than Ivory. I really like the feel of both apps but I personally use Mona. I had already bought Spring before so I got a discount buying pro.

EDIT: I forgot to include phanpy! It’s a web client but I added it to my Home Screen as a web app. I really like how all the threads are displayed on there. I use this sometimes when not using Mona. Phanpy makes it easier to get through threads and boosts on my home feed

RedditTransfer,

@Arthur Megalodon is the best I've tried so far. I'm also using the kbin.social on the web for now until they have their own app released. Really excited for it's release. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for it!

jinno,

Judging by the repos, it looks like Ernest intends to make a Flutter app for kbin. That said - there's nothing actually in the repo yet.

I've been using Trunks for a week now and have been enjoying it. I'll check out Mona though!

I'm using the WebApp of elk.zone and I really like it. I've also tried Moshidon, Tusky, Fedilab and koyu.space.

My favorites are Moshidon and Elk

I really like megalodon, elk.zone and phanpy is another really nice front end that focuses on removing clutter.

@TruthButtCharioteer I just checked out Phanphy per this post and really like it. It feels snappy and looks good. Using it as an app on my iPhone now, too. I don't check Mastodon enough to justify $2/mo for Ivory, but if one does it's another great app.

Thanks for the recommendation, I just tried it out and love it so far! The remote local timelines is a very nice feature.

+1 for icecubes. Been using it for a while now and it's been very smooth and has nice customization.

I’m using Mona, it’s crazily customisable!

I'm a big Mona fan too.

I’ve been using it too, love the customization as well. Also has a lot of features compared to apps like ivory and mammoth.

TheChancePants,

Been trying to use Ice Cubes due to it being free and open-source, but I feel like it’s just way too slow to load up new posts, making using Mastodon feel like a chore. Anybody else experience this? Is paying for Ivory worth it as an alternative?

cbipns,

@wrath@kbin.social this is a test comment on your kbin post from a mastodon account using ice cubes

Sooperstition,

I’m personally a fan of Ice Cubes. It just works, but I’m still a little unsure if it’s the best at interacting with other fediverse sites. Its UI is pretty clunky when you’re outside of mastodon

Right now I'm using the official app, but this thread has definitely given me a lot of other ones to check out.

kleinheld,

I mostly use Ivory on iOS because it fits my needs and preferences quite well.

Mona is another good option, with a plethora of advanced features and customization. I especially like the ability to load from remote server.

toxtethogrady,

I'm defaulted to Universeodon. That seems to be just enough.

IceCubes has been consistently updated and improved since it launched a few months ago. It even supports a rudimentary “quote toot” feature thanks to it rendering embedded HTML from links.

ke7zum,

My favorite has to be for iOs. I hope it can one day work with KBin as the app is that good, and the developer cares about inclusivity and accessibility for everyone.

I'm on Android so it's Tusky for me, although, Trunks is closing in fast. A few more tweaks and I'm likely to jump ship! :-)

CosmicRacoon,

Ivory, (Going to check out Mona now) and just checked out phanpy. It's pretty great, i like the way the multi-column layout works, I found it more intuitive than mastodons native web client. I wish in the multi-column I could add a box for posting instead of the feather icon in the corner.....unless you can and I haven't figured out how.

Does anything other than Phanpy have boost carousel? That is amazing

I use Ice Cubes normally and Phanpy when I want to just skim boosts

I've tried a lot of them and finally settled on Mona. It's crazy customizable!
