TweetTweetJam 9 is almost here!

https://itch.io/jam/tweettweetjam-9

Starting Monday, come make a tiny game in 500 characters of code! It’s super fun every year, and we’d love for you to participate!

500 characters?

I don't thing I've ever written a game under 500 lines...

@The4thCircle It’s definitely a challenge! But if you check out previous entries, it’s very achievable!

Okay I know the Jam hasn't started yet but I made a warmup game and have learned:
• All variable names should be 1 letter
• Properly formatted code is the enemy
• Functions are also the enemy

@The4thCircle Yep, the code usually ends up pretty unmaintainable!

For several of my entries, my approach has been to write the code more-or-less legibly, then make a 'minified' branch for the jam submission. Then, if I want to go back and expand on the jam idea, I can go back to the legible version!

@platformalist

Well if that's true I can't not try it...

@platformalist what does it pay?

platformalist,

@synlogic It’s a game jam, so doesn’t pay anything. Basically an excuse to flex your creative muscles over the course of a week, try something new and maybe build something that you could eventually turn into a proper game!

@platformalist ah k. what I suspected. not a good fit for me then haha. I've been making computer games for decades, sometimes for professional pay, usually for peanuts or zilch. so not an itch I need to scratch anymore. I invested a few months of my life last year building a game (Slartboz) brought in $17 total. never again. loltears

@synlogic Fair enough! If money's the primary object, game jams aren't usually the place to be!
