@Christine_Broesenhuber I know it! Two of my squashes have been munched overnight... little feckers! I use wool pellets where I expect trouble and they seem to be effective
@JimmyB@gardening I've tried so many different things bt these little buggers aren't easily deterred. After a while they seem to be able to get around everything I do to prevent them from finishing off MY food.
@gardening@Christine_Broesenhuber I know! One of the real issues for me is that the environments they like to live in - well vegetated, scruffy area - are really important environmentally. I’m naturally untidy so that’s easy for me but temptations to just get in there and clear overgrown areas is strong when I know what’s hiding in there
@JimmyB@gardening those slugs could go anywhere, my garden/yard are so messy! 😂 During the first few years our neighbors offered to lend us their lawnmowers until they understood that we keep it "messy" on purpose. We haven't been able to inspire them to emulate us, though. They're too German 😜 😂
I’ve just turned over a compost heap and then planted out an overgrown cork oak. I bought it as a novelty about 4 inches high. It’s been 6 ft and pot bound for a couple of years, and while I definitely do not want a full size cork oak in my garden, pruning is my friend. The hole for the oak was under two old stumps. Took off the first one and my mollusc problem was exposed! Took a bucket of them to the nearby field…
@gardening@Christine_Broesenhuber@melanie I have them a big poke and some got trimmed but always nervous there specially this time of year. Going to take a fair bit of care to keep it alive through a hot summer I suspect
