The is now mostly complete... or rather: The infrastructure 😎

Right now:

  • Omada AP
  • OPNSense router (Protectli)
  • TP Link Smart Switch
  • ThinkCentre: Server (Docker, DNS, etc.)
  • PC: NAS, with 2 x 4TB SSD drives in a mirror (ZFS)

Wifi, Servers and the local LAN are all seperated physically on the .

Next on the list: fun 🙂

Power usage: about ~35W

I can live with that for sure 🙂

@stefano
Thanks Stefano 😉

I jus love those little, power efficient, systems - endless fun 😎

@jhx they're great and you can do a lot of things with low power consumption

@stefano
For sure.
I personally try to minimize the costs were it is possible, without compromising.

Sure, having a Xeon 19" rack server is fun.... but oh my... it is loud, uses a lot of power and to be honest I don't even have a clue on how to use all that power at home for my own needs.
(My lab is 99% only for myself - so there is not that much I need anyway)

Do you run a lab at home?

@jhx Yes, I do. I keep some backups, home automation, Nextcloud, VPN, storage, etc. The main device is a Qotom (Intel i7, I don't remember the details but the low-energy edition) with 8 GB of RAM, of course powered by FreeBSD 14.0-RELEASE. A couple of Linux VMs are running and an OpenBSD one.

@stefano
That is a nice setup 😎
Running some vm's can be very useful. 8GB of RAM and a i7 CPU gets you a long way for sure!
Home automation is something I never dabbled in - no experience at all 😂
Well, running puffy and beasty for sure guarantees a good time :freebsd: :openbsd:
