What's the point of creating Lemmy community if most of us anticipating the re-opening of the sub? Instead we contribute and donate to the new platform, we left dust.
The point is to still have a PH community for people who have lost trust in reddit and are trying to wean off of the platform. It's going to take a while, but we have to start somewhere, right?
well i guess at first it was only for refugees, since at that time subreddits are still bargaining, pero given sa responce ni spez at pati narin yung pekeng AMA niya, dun na tayo nagkaroon ng stance na dapat di na lang basta evacuation ang lemmy bagkus dapat ito na yung bagong tahanan.
Appointing questionable hacks purely out of utang na loob. Still can’t get used to seeing press cons and it’s fucking Daphne Osena smack dab in the middle. Or Arnell Ignacio handling the plight of OFWs, among many other appointments.
Wala talaga magbabago kun kurap ang nakaluklok. Not only corruption, pero supporting bilyonaryong kulto is Philippines’ political problem. We need Leni as a start to change the political landscape, pero 31M chose to stay the same.
shoes. though not technically expensive because i buy them used (they are expensive when bought new).
cheap shoes will hurt your feet, are easily damaged, and not repairable. the cheapest shoes i had lasted 2 weeks. leather ones can last years with proper care and resole.
bamboo socks. they have better odor resistance than cotton ones.
getting sick of my cheap earphones, on the hunt for a php500-1000 corded earphone.
Have you heard of Sam Vimes "Boots" theory of socioeconomic unfairness, often called simply the boots theory? Sam Vimes is a protagonist in many of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
from the comments @jamiebautista4486 Considering the Marcoses are back in power in the Philippines, with Imelda having long desired to clean up their image, her son now president, having a play now that can make people empathize with Imelda the way David Byrne did, the timing seems…. strange. As someone in the Philippines working to help the world and younger generations ot forget martial law or the human rights violations the Marcoses never admitted or showed remorse for, a play that could glamorize her and her family, make her seem like an “Evita” with millions in marketing and production budget feels discouraging to me and downright offensive to those who suffered under their regime. It feels like having a Trump musical that only lightly touches on Jan 6 but focuses more on his The Apprentice days.
Pics/Videos/GIFs of John Oliver still fall within the sub name (r/pics, r/videos, r/GIFs) which implicitly places limitations on the theme surrounding the sub. They also conducted polls where the outcome was decided by the community. This way, mods have technically complied with reddit rules and are shown not to own the sub, hence, are simply allowing it to open according to community decision. This allows the mods to keep their positions and not get replaced by the worst people (for example, the worst case scenario is getting an apologist replacing the mods).
Dickbutts are a few too many degrees away from what r/Philippines should be about and might get the mods replaced for disrupting the sub. Just look at how r/interestingasfuck is going to comply with admin demands by just removing all subreddit rules (i.e. post anything you find interesting).
So, I guess the problem for country subreddits opening up and doing malicious compliance is that there's not much constraining them to a theme.
I've tried coming up with ideas for /r/Philippines, and to be quite honest, the couple I came up with are kinda forced and have some problems:
Making the content all about this guy: Philip II of Spain -- the problem I see with that is that it might still be interesting, or deep enough for the posts to be valuable.
Bringing back things to normal, but with a twist: everything must be written in Tagalog, and in Baybayin (except possibly for loanwords) -- the problem i see here is that it's just way too much work for the mods (translating stuff to pure Tagalog, for one, then writing it to Baybayin). Its one redeeming factor is that without proper font support, no one will be able to read shit.
as other in /rmodcoord had said. It is just better to just let automod get disabled along with other infrastructure the mods had set up be closed. that way u/spez can see his long IPO dream get 4chaned
This reminds me that I saw on youtube on 2021 where Chinese millennials and gen z are protesting by let it rot (they have a Chinese word for that). They feel like they're useless to the society and the workforce is horrible. They don't stick to jobs more than two years, they don't plan to start a family or finding a date, and etc.
What they wanted is better paying jobs, more vacation time and probably work from home. I did feel sorry about them because a lot of them are depressed and tired in China.
Correct me if I'm wrong with this. Just like what @megane said from their comment by doing "let it rot", is pretty smart idea. The whole point of going to reddit is to go to the specific community that you like. But by posting random stuff that is not related to the subreddit it will force people to check on other subreddit. If I go to r/cats and all I see are random post that are not cat related, then I will go to other subreddits. But if other subreddit decided to post random stuff outside their community name then it's a sign that redditors are still protesting. It's not similar to the John Oliver single post thing. Because of there's no rules then post whatever you like?
We still need to prevent reddit admins from stepping in and replacing mods for disrupting the sub. Which is why other subs are making a big show of making a poll and just following what wins (i.e. they changed sub rules to follow community decision rather than disruptively deciding to remove it of their own accord). Letting admins know that it's rotting because of reddit decision and not because of mod decision.
No matter what tho, even if the mods do get replaced (and with lackluster moderation tools), it's never going to return to the same old r/PH. Ang takot ko lang naman ay makitang mahalintulad sa sino yung sub.
you can post related stuff to r/ph or whatever sub you are in. just be a cesspool like facebook or 4chan lol
reddit touts itself having better content because of rules placed by mods and everyone following the proper rediquette(you don't see that in r/ph though so whatever LOL), but letting it be a free for all just destroys that illusion and keeps their investors and advertisers away.
Same here, mostly because I’ve been a Mavs fan since the early 90s. I’ve witnessed the entirety of the Nowitzki era and the Three Js, and now Luka.
When people assume a certain team has all the advantages and going to curb stomp someone, it usually doesn’t work out as they expect. I feel like Dallas is going to have a gameplan for the Celtics spacing and steal a few wins. It’s not like they haven’t seen a five-out offense before. OKC had one when Giddey sat.
Yung lalagyan ng condiments yung pagkain (calamansi with pancit or hot sauce sa pizza) and deciding for everyone when they could just take their own portion and apply it there. As someone who hates putting anything on my food, it pisses me the f off.
