DrBob, in Federico Garcia Lorca, "Little Viennese Waltz".

Lorca was one of Leonard Cohen’s favorite poets. He named his daughter after him. He also wrote a song based on that poem:

voidskull, in Kim Addonizio, "First Kiss".

Why do I feel so weird ?

BonesOfTheMoon,

It’s very intimate.

DarkNightoftheSoul, in Adam Zagajewski, "Impossible Friendships".

I can relate to this brand of loneliness too easily.

BonesOfTheMoon,

Same friend. Same.

Flummoxed, in Emily Dickinson - "I'm Nobody, Who Are You?"

Thank you for reminding me of this fantastic piece.

Pronell, in Treatment 20 Years Too Late. [OC]

It’s a perfectly fine poem, and I hope you get the answers you seek.

Not taking people seriously is one of the most damaging things we do to each other.

Aw thank you. I had to drive 2 hours to see this new doctor and it was totally worth it. I exhausted all of my options that were closer over the years.

Pronell,

It took my mother more than 20 years before she found a doctor who took her seriously and diagnosed her as having a hyperactive thyroid, then another 25 years before one went over her extensive list of meds one by one to determine she had a one in a million allergy to cortisone that was causing mild organ failure.

Doctors don’t listen well, especially to women. It’s getting better, but only slowly.

BonesOfTheMoon, in Emily Dickinson - "I'm Nobody, Who Are You?"

I am not much for rhyming poems, but Emily Dickinson is the greatest at it by far.

I think Paul Verlaine is my favourite in terms of working with rhyme, but it doesn’t really translate from the original french.

Thanks for sharing that.

If you try editing the post to make the formatting work, add double spaces at the end of each line before pressing enter, it should make the line break work as expected.

LaunchesKayaks,
@LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world avatar

Does it look any better now?

DarkNightoftheSoul,
@DarkNightoftheSoul@mander.xyz avatar

That’s better, but still not what I think you were going for:

No longer told I’m young
Not told that it’s my weight
Not told that it’s my mental health
She acknowledges my miserable state

View source on this (the button between downvote and reply, the page with top right corner folded in) comment. Observe that at the end of each line there is a double-space, and then an enter. The double space at the end of a line before pressing return is how to format for line breaks as you would expect in a standard text editor like ms word.

Hope you get an answer you can use. If you’re in the HLA-B27 group, know that there are community organized help forums out there and let me know if you want a link or two :)

Idk if I’m in that group or not. I know that the next tests I am getting are to see if I have lupus and/or some other autoimmune disease.

SirSamuel, in Margaret Atwood, "Siren Song"

That was compelling.

Thank you

BonesOfTheMoon,

Margaret Atwood is much better known for her fiction but she really is an outstanding poet too, one of my favourites.

General_Shenanigans, in Henry Rollins, untitled prose

Knowing what I do about Henry Rollins, I heard this prose spoken as though it were the voice of music.

BonesOfTheMoon,

What do you think of him?

General_Shenanigans,

All I know is that he’s somebody that a lot of people might characterize as a very intense, crazy motherfucker. The man needed an outlet and found it in Black Flag. I don’t know a whole lot about him as a person aside from the occasional thing like this that pops up, and I think I saw a documentary that featured him not too long ago. Knowing that he struggled with being different and then finding his life’s work in music is my main takeaway.

BonesOfTheMoon,

I can’t call myself a Black Flag fan, but his spoken word albums are fantastic and I listen often.

Aralakh, in Henry Rollins, untitled prose

Now, I’m crying… Didn’t think Zaheer could move me so.

BonesOfTheMoon,

His books are really worth reading.

NegativeInf, in Henry Rollins, untitled prose

This is tattooed on my soul.

BonesOfTheMoon,

Right?

voidskull, in Sharon Olds, "Unspeakable".

Does this hint of her husband having an affair ?

BonesOfTheMoon,

Yes I think that’s the idea.

DaMonsterKnees, in Maggie Smith, "Bride".

Apologies, but to confirm, this is the same beloved dowager? Among half a dozen other epic and award winning manifestations of this excellent human? That Maggie Smith?

BonesOfTheMoon,

No it’s a poet named Maggie Smith, haha.

Cosmicomical, in Maggie Smith, "Poem Beginning With a Retweet"

That went dark fast… not quickly but suddenly
